That Wilner article looks bad for ISU, however, it overlooks the fact that the ACC will likely lose schools to the Big Ten or the SEC and then will need to replace schools by grabbing Big East schools like Pitt, WVA, Syracuse, or Rutgers, which would eventually open up a spot for ISU - ISU just has to hope that the SEC immediately goes to 14 or 16.

Hmm. I there a particular reason why the Big East would be more interested in KSU rather than us?

Kansas must be an alternate reality version of Iowa where one state school and the state media are not in a state of constant orgasm over the idea of the other school landing in a minor conference.

It's the only reason I can come up with because ISU certainly adds more than KSU in every way if KU is already in the league. We'll be back to being better than them at basketball this year ;-)

KSU has been relevant in football over the past decade, going to major bowl games and their basketball team has been ranked in the top 10 over the past few years.

I love ISU, but the football has been average at best and thanks to McD, basketball has been a flop. Too bad this conference changes were not happening in a few years down the road, I think ISU would look a lot more attractive.

I don't see the Big Ten expanding unless Notre Dame or Texas are involved. Neither of those seem likely at this point.

The Big East will get raided so much we'll be right back where we are now in terms of a football conference. Nobody should feel warm and fuzzy about the Big East.

Long term I think ISU ends up in the B1G or ACC and Baylor and BYU get forced into SEC/P16 to avoid the massive and justified law suits and anti trust investigations. In truth they may need to add about 15 teams to avoid it. It's completely idiotic that Duke is in a 64 team football playoff while ISU, BSU, Baylor, Hawaii, BYU, Houston, Southern Miss, AFA, Nevada, Fresno State and UCF are not.

Law suits/investigations or new MWC/CUSA super conference. That's where this is headed. If the new MWC/CUSA is viable then a second round of huge law suits and investigations come about.

These journalist don't know crap compared to people like CW and the posters on this board. It's OUR LIFE. We know the next domino, they're struggling to grasp what's happening right now, let alone how what's happening right now will be viewed as illegal in several ways.

These decisions aren't made in the press;

1. You over estimate KSU's relevance

2. Jamie Pollard could easily make a compelling argument that you get more with KU & ISU than with KU & KSU.

Wasn't aTm supposed to be an official member of SEC by now? Are there any official meetings going on of conference university presidents or BOR's - of any conference? Any press conferences scheduled? It seems that everything is languishing in rumor and half-***ed theories (or theroys, to someone on this board!). I need resolution, and I will not be ignored, Dan!!!!

It's like an arms race - once the PAC 16 happens, the SEC 16 will happen. Which in turn will make the B1G 16 happen.

Wilner believes, just as most others do who follow this, that ND will be forced to join a conference once super conferences forms, as the possibility of a four school playoff for a national title becomes very possible at that point - remaining independent could destroy ND's football program at that point.

Here's a great article about the recent demise of ND - showing why Independence doesn't grant them the same advantages it did even 20 years ago:

The Demise of the Notre Dame Football Program : The XLog

ND will join a conference eventually...it is inevitable...the dawn of super conferences is a logical point for that to happen.

This is why I ultimately see the fourth BCS conference being a "best of the rest" conference. It will make no geographic sense, but it will include up to 24 schools who didn't make the PAC, B1G, or SEC cut, just to make sure all the schools who have enjoyed BCS status end up with BCS status and there are no lawsuits.

I could see some non AQ's getting in as well - BYU, Houston, SMU - schools who have had history of success but don't want to be relegated to relative obscurity.

This article was written by Tim Griffin. Of course he's going to slam ISU. A leopard never changes its spots, etc.
I agree. I bet he even made up that part where he said the Big East no longer wants Iowa State or Baylor. I don't think Tim Griffin knows is left hand from his right hand.

It's certainly logical when you realize it's all about football. The ACC and Big East send unranked teams to BCS games. Why would either of them be 1/4 of a football playoff when they could be sucked into real football conferences.

A hodge podge of MWC, Big 12, ACC and Big East teams that ends up around 20 teams will be much stronger than the ACC and Big East have been the past few years since Florida State has not been that good. WV is the only "solid" team among those 20 the past few seasons.

Look at your "west" division of teams the "big boys" may not invite. Boise State, BYU, Baylor, TCU, Nevada, Kansas State. That's 3/6 teams who were highly rated last year in a year when BYU was down.

That division, let alone that entire conference is SIGNIFICANTLY stronger than the horrible Big East that average UCONN won last year. If that league with an eastern division of ISU/Big East/ACC leftovers is left out of a playoff it's law suit city. It's better than the ACC has been 7 of the last 10 years as well.

The super conferences just don't automatically happen. Stop living in a SIM world where everything occurs instantly and nothing goes through review and process. If the PAC 16 happens, every other conference isn't going to rush to go to 16. They will all wait.

They will watch the PAC 16, and see what happens. They will watch the money and competition and see if there is enough to go around. The Big 10, ACC, SEC, and Big East will have no reason to go to 16. Why spread the money thin. Sorry, but, you will all have to wait for Armageddon.

Okay so If I read the articles properly. It sounded like the SEC is jealous of the Pac 12, and can only gain money by adding teams other wise they have to wait a few years. (ya know cause they are going broke) The pack 12 will get in an arms race to keep up with the SEC expansion. The B1G doesn't need to do anything cause there money can't change until 2016, no matter what they do. The Big East is looking for $4 billion. Just to summarize what I read.

If we can infer anything from this it would be if you are a Big East team why would you leave if you are going to get $4 billion as a conference? ($4 Billion over 15 years among 12 teams is over $22 million a year, and I am not sure how long they want that contract to be so it could be more than that) That is a boat load of cash that, as it stands the B1G and the SEC can't compete with. As far as I know the ACC doesn't have a new deal coming up. So are we sure the ACC will survive?

Also I am sure they all mention KU and KSU together because they are assuming they are a package deal.

Wait, wait...so are you saying the B1G is not going to expand, just because every one else is doing it? The Big East won't dissolve, because they are getting paid. But, what about the super conference theory of 4. I thought this was going to happen next year. Hhhmmmmm. It sounds too logical to be true.

Hmm, the Big 12 is about to get paid too but that doesn't seem to matter, does it?

There are two reason to expand, one you are unstable and need to solidify your place, or two, there is more money in expanding.

So if there isn't more money in expanding why the hell would the B1G go out and get more teams and have a more diluted league. If this goes to 4 16 team conference there are going to be some really unhappy teams that used to be dominate.

However, BooneCy I am afraid you might be right that it is to logical.
