I agree 100%. Even if the deal holds up now, if that new deal doesn't look good to some teams, they'll be trolling for dollars again.

Here is what I think a part of OU's holdup may be:

They're not too crazy about going through all this again in 2015. If they decide they want the Big 12 to stick together for them, they want it to stick for the long haul. That means

1. some sort of legally binding concessions about HS games/highlights on the Horn network
2. a reasonable confidence that the Big 12 will attract 1-3 quality teams (which would've been a lot easier if they wouldn't have opened their mouths but worked all their concerns out behind closed doors)
3. Perhaps most importantly of all, something that legally binds the rest of the league of 9 together because they know Mizzou or whoever else wants to leave when the Big 10 sets its sights on expansion 2015....However, Oklahoma knows if they sign this now, then they won't be able to leave later either. So they really have to decide long term if this is where they want to be.

So we create some sort of ironclad contract that doesn't let teams out for anything short of their team seceding from the union. Although, that might still leave ISU with some problems if Texas decides to split into 5 states someday.

Texas splitting into 5 states kind of scares me because the A&M/Houston-metro area state would further alienate itself from the longhorns, further diluting the Big 12 market penetration into that state.

You guys remember those East Carolina fans who got on here last week and were making their case for their inclusion into the Big 12? Remember they said that their desire is to succeed from the rest of Carolina and become the 51st state? Adding them as the Big Brother of a new state with a lot of TV sets would look pretty good. At that point the US would be at 55 states with 4 new from Texas and 1 new from Carolina. If we could then grant statehood to places like Guam or American Samoa to get up to 60 states and send them gifts from Big 12 country like corn, wheat, and cattle, then maybe they'd join the Big 12 to not only get us more TV sets, but gain a good recruiting grip. I heard American Samoa produces some huge linemen. That'd show Larry Scott who is in charge of expansion. Beat them to the Pacific rim before the PAC can get there.

If the B12 has the choice of BYU vs ECU - BYU is a no-brainer. Additionally, if it is true the conference was this close to adding Pitt, BYU and possibly Louisville and we lost them becuase OU spouted off at the mouth about looking around, the other AD's/President's should be fuming.

The B12 with the nine + Pitt, BYU and Louisville would be a kick-butt conference. All three have solid football teams and men's bball teams.

Louisville didn't look to solid tonight, but I agree these would be some good additions. For football might be stronger then the original line up of the Big 12, for sure stronger for ball.

It is starting to feel like the Presidents and Chancellors of the Schools are just not ready for realignment. Especially when it is hurting other schools, and disturbs their tradition and success. I am sure Larry Scott wants to expand, but have not heard any school in the Pac 12 say that they are excited by expansion. The SEC on the other hand has Coaches all over the league supporting the addition of A&M. I see that one happening as soon as the Big 12 is sorted out for better or for worse.

If we could lock down Samoa as a recruiting grounds for our linemen, we would be unstoppable.

We're a lot stronger in Bball right now at 10 or 9 teams, let alone if we add BYU or other strong hoops teams. Our two worst programs left.

The Big Ten now has two teams that have never won an NCAA game in history, one of them used to be an embarrassment to us. How hard is it to do something that 32 teams do every single year? Apparently too hard for Nebraska and Northwestern.

You're joking but a Texan front runner for President of the United States feels that Texas should separate from the USA. Stupid times we live in.

“When we came into the nation in 1845, we were a republic, we were a stand-alone nation,â€￾ the governor can be heard saying. “And one of the deals was, we can leave anytime we want. So we’re kind of thinking about that again.â€￾

Explains a lot when dealing with Texas teams, they don't even want to stay in the country they think they should be in charge of...hmmmmmm. Pretty much exactly like A&M and UT's pompous attitudes toward the Big 12. They think they should be the boss, but somehow they don't want to be part of it either. Not trying to turn the thread political but it's a pretty striking similarity.

Of course, they came in as a "free-standing" nation so loaded down with debt that they could barely survive, and with a national enemy in Mexico looking to take them back into their empire by force, and the USA bailed them out of their pathetic, sorry condition. But those kinds of things don't matter.

Kind of like taking in teams from a floundering conference.......

I thought the NCAA already ruled on this - it's not allowed.

By the way, I guess Mizzou blew their chance with the Pac 12 last night...

NCAA said no HS games, but ESPN said they wanted to show extended highlight packages of HS games of UT recruits after the game was over. I'm sure OU is in talks about this as well as the 2nd/3rd games being conference games or not.

And I hope a few 'certain' teams realized just how late that game got over. :err:

I was ready for bed by the time it started. :)

Anyone catch Larry Scott's comments on expansion? I couldn't quite hear them and my wife changed the channel for a moment and I missed them.

Boy, it looks like Baylor (and us) putting a breaks on things might actually work out pretty well. Yeah, its a big "if" right now but:

1) UT concedes on equal sharing. Perhaps gets to keep the LHN; if they do, I think we ought to create a Midwest College Network to cover games of ISU, KSU, KU, MU. Just a thought.
2) OU decides to stay; mostly because the PAC12 has gotten cold feet.
3) Let A&M leave ... good riddance you will never been as good as UT anyway. Good luck being an ISU in the SEC. You just guaranteed yourselves 3 losses every year.
4) Get BYU onboard - no brainer (win/win)
5) Get Pitt to join as well as some other decent team as long as they are not in texas. Somebody closer to BYU (UNLV) or Pitt would probably make the most sense. People have thrown out Cinci, Louisville, Memphis. Don't really have a preference but Pitt is a must.
6) Set up a huge penalty fee to keep teams from bailing.

So: we get BYU/Pitt to replace NE/TAMU - not quite the same but close. Whatever third team is picked would likely be as good as CU and probably better. Net wash. More TV sets too. NE didn't bring much (Omaha); BYU brings Salt Lake and the mormon following Pitt brings ... yeah, Pittsburgh. Others would bring new markets too (Cinci, Vegas). So TV revenue stream would be the same or perhaps better.

Sounds good to me, likely to happen? Not a chance in hell.

Yes, he basically said that he hopes that the Big 12 stays together *lie*, AND that the Pac 12 hasn't been in contact with any teams regarding expansion *lie*, AND that he hopes that the expansion in college football is done *lie*.
