I disagree. Not all major conferences are alike. If (when) TX and OU see a better offer and jump, the Big 12 stops being a major conference. Ego isn't a factor at all. I think most Mizzou fans don't want to see the Big 12 destroyed, nor do we think that our departure would do that.

An "emotional" or "irrational" decision would be to reject an opportunity to increase revenue, create new matchups, and gain stability in favor of "traditional" rivalries that few care about. Do you get fired up by road trips to Lubbock or Manhattan? Or Columbia, for that matter?

I don't think ANY Mizzou fans expect to come into the SEC and win consistently, right away. We're certainly not Alabama, but we're not Vanderbilt, either. (I think the 2007 12-2 team could have competed with anybody in the SEC at that time) We'll get better.

All I want is what is best for Missouri, just as most of you want what is best for ISU above all else. Maybe that's part of the problem with this conference.

I don't claim to understand all of the implications about Tier 1/2/3 revenue, but this is the best article I've seen explaining it. (My apologies if the link doesn't work...it's my first post)

SEC Expansion To 14 Goal: Its Own Network : Outkick The Coverage

(sorry if this has already been posted in the thousands of posts in this thread!)

I think Gabe D's right about one thing: the time for complaining about this conference is over. Either the Big 12 is fixable or it isn't. I would imagine most Cyclones believe it is. My guess is most Mizzou fans think it's time to shake hands, part company, and move on.

There is only one league that makes sense for Mizzou (or ISU) for that matter to consider a better scenario than the current B12 and that (as much as I hate to say it) is the B10. To try and create a compelling story that ends in the conclusion a move to the SEC for Mizzou is better than staying in the B12 is nothing more than thinking with blinders on (i.e. anything, ANYTHING is better than the B12).

Whatever, the facts are that REGARDLESS, Mizzou would land in a conference if things fell apart. If they go to the SEC I hope they get the **** sued out of them for playing both sides of the fence.

The bolded part is ********. Create new matchups, like what? Ask hawk fans how fired up they are to play their protected rival the boilermakers.

Did you watch the ISU- UCONN game and see the amount of cyclone fans that turned out. If ISU continues its success I guarantee this trend will continue, and we will be fired up to roll into Manhattan or Lubbock.

Are you telling me that you wouldn't care if you didn't get to play Kansas anymore? Many MIZZOU fans that I know despise Kansas but also see the game as a great rivalry.

Either way, if MIZZOU leaves the big 12 it is a suck-out. Just like Nebraska.

I don't necessarily agree with the lawsuit stuff unless absolutely necessary, but rest of this post is spot on...

Mizzoulander's linked piece is interesting because it essentially sums up where the Big 12 is today. The Big 12 is likely to do exactly what Outkick the Coverage is suggesting, and for the same reasons.

They are going to add new markets with new teams.

They are going to add new "inventory" to sell for TV in the process.

And yes, they are going to build a Big 12 network, in partnership with Fox Sports, who has a lot of experience with this sort of thing, or Comcast/NBC. Sort of doubt ESPN is going to be in the running.

BTN was the first shot in an arms race. All major conferences ultimately will need conference networks to compete. Interesting ESPN saw fit to try and head it off with their deal with DeLoss Dodds.

Here nor there
Missouri justifies their contribution to the conference's instability by claiming the conference is unstable? Pretty weak when coming from the member who was the first to publicly flirt with another conference.

Conference realignment is an interesting example of game theory. There is not much that is tangible in determining "stability". It is the mindset of the members of the conference. Missouri is going to get lapped while running from itself.

Mizzou is kind of like Iowa. Iowa gets a big woody thinking they are rivals to OSU and Mich...meanwhile OSU and Mich barely think twice about Iowa 9 years out of 10. Mizzou might get boners over thinking Alabama is now their rival but when Alabama rolls them by 40 on their way to their national championship they won't be sweating mizzou. Mizzou fans, and ISU fans, and the rest of the BigXII would do better to quit being ESPN lemmings and stop letting them tell you that our conference match-ups aren't interesting. They are as interesting as you want them to be. IF people would fricking embrace them as their conference RIVALS we could really have a nice conference.

What will the Big East president's meeting bring? Their ship at the moment is taking on more water than the Big XII. Anyone think that a second conference commish is taking a hike?

Don't think this has been posted...but sorry if it has.

This article was published about 1 hour ago.

Neinas 'confident' Missouri will stay in Big 12 - College Football - Rivals.com

Highlights

1. Interim Big 12 Commissioner Chuck Neinas says he is confident Missouri will stay in the Big 12.

“We understand that relative to the grant of rights issue this matter has to be considered by the Missouri board of curators, and they will have an opportunity to review what the conference has accomplished, what we’re doing and what we plan to do,” Neinas told reporters on a conference Wednesday night. “I think that once they have an opportunity to fully understand and comprehend what the conference is doing that they will agree that Missouri should continue to be a good member of the Big 12 Conference.”

2. Nobody knows how many teams to expand to

Regarding possible expansion of the Big 12—with or without Missouri— Neinas said there was still no telling how many schools might be added. The presidents of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State have said they are most comfortable if the league gets back to 12 members, while Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds advocated 10. Neinas said there was even some sentiment for staying at nine.
“There is no unanimity at all. There isn’t even a plurality among the athletic directors as to what they would like to do,” Neinas said.
He added, “There has been no shortage of interest” from teams wanting to join the conference.

3. TCU is back in the mix in full force for expansion

Neinas had said last week that there was “resistance” from some existing members to adding teams from Texas.
“I’d say that’s changed,” he said.

They better not add teams from Texas.

I won't lie. This Neinas guy is already not doing much that I am impressed with.

yeah...let's add another Texas team that will bail the next time Texas gets all poo poo lipped and tries to take their ball and go home.

God I hate this...can't everybody just shut the hell up, cash their checks, and work together to bring in some solid universities that will DIVERSIFY our conference?

Neinas is just a figurehead. A pawn. GG and JP have the keys to this crazy train now, so whatever goes down, know that ISU is in full control. And frankly, it is about fricking time. If I was the rest of the conference, the second Mizzou tried to ***** out last year I'd have called ISU's top peeps and said, hey, you guys have done more with less than anyone in the world, get us out of this mess. If they would have turned this turd over to us then, more than likely, Nebbie is still here, and Tammy is still toasting mason jars of goo.

Job #1, save the conference. Get current schools signed on.
Job #2, expand. More of what we want to see should come to light after Job #1 is complete.

I too don't want to see more TX schools ..... But we may have to if 12 is the magic number.

We already recruit against TCU. Adding them won't impact our recruiting much. If anything it'll help since we'll be able to continue promising recruits that they'll play in Texas twice a year.

I am coming around on the TCU thing. I was completely against them, but I think we need as many games in Texas as possible for the same reason the eastern PAC teams were ******** about wanting their cali games.

Well it seems that he is issuing statements that say something more than, "The big 12 is a great conference and I am confident that we will all make it. No one would leave this great conference."

You shouldnt have to make a claim as to why you believe you fit into a conference you just fit. Mizzou in the SEC is only about $ and will be regretted when Mizzou is soley competing for basketball titles. Does Mizzou compete in one of the best football, women's basketball, baseball conferences? They do hold the advantage in wrestling because nobody in the conference has a wrestling team. This looks like a square peg in a round whole, but hey I under$tand.
