I wonder how many calls Del Conte has received from the Big XII today. Dude, you're a Big XII AD now. Keep your yap shut.

Unless this was planted by the Big XII. He could because he is not yet a Big XII AD. This may be to help stoke some fires.

Buyers remorse cannot be good for ISU.

Agreed. If we go to 14 or 16 and the conference starts to pull apart 5 or 10 years down the road, we could very well find ourselves looking at scenarios where we get left behind. If we just take FSU and Clemson, the B12, B1G, ACC, and Pac are all at 12 teams. As long as the BCS changes don't force ND into anything, everybody may be content to just sit there and there is no need to move to the superconference approach.

Meh. If we go to 16 and it starts to fall apart because it's too large chances are we'll be going back to a 6 power conference model where we'd have a place at someones table. We'd be right back where we started.

Actually, he isn't yet...Not for a couple weeks at least. How do you think all these "back channel" conversations have been mediated...

This. I don't know if the media is just regurgitating the Chip Brown rumor, but this story that the SEC is finding 14 to be messy is being repeated.

Going to 12 allows for a FB championship game, so there is some logic to that. But what does 14 get you? If it doesn't bring in more money per school, there is really no reason to do it, especially if it complicates conference issues. CBS is apparently balking at the SEC TV contract demands, so perhaps the money isn't there.

This could also be because they'd prefer to see the SEC grow even larger by adding VT and a Carolina school. Or it could be that CBS wants to see what happens to the ACC first; why renegotiate with 14 teams now if there's a strong likelihood of the conference expanding again and prompting yet another renegotiation?

I wouldn't be so sure. We may not be relegated to Conference USA like we were worried about last time, but we could certainly be worse off than the current Big 12 + 2 (whoever they are).

If everybody makes the run to 16, and those conferences start falling apart, we aren't going to be a top pick to fill out a new conference. We look to be hitting the jackpot now because we just happen to be in the right place. What if when it all hits the fan, other conferences start up and schools like UT and OU head off to join them? Nobody is going to bring us along for the ride, or fight to grab us in expansion.

We would probably find a home in some pseudo-power conference with the other leftovers schools (much like what the Big East looks like today), which while not the worst thing possible certainly isn't great.

We will never be a school that has much control over our fate, so anything that significantly increases our chances for future instability in our conference is bad for us. Doesn't matter if it is being the first to try the 16 team experiment, or screwing around with some ND partial membership. We are in a very stable place with the B12 right now, and things are very much looking up for ISU right now. That is not a coincidence.

ACC's Swofford Would Be Shocked & Disappointed if FSU, Clemson, & Miami Are Talking to Big 12 : Outkick The Coverage

Asked whether he was surprised by comments from TCU AD Chris del Conte this morning that the Big 12 "now has schools like Florida State, Clemson, and Miami (that) are trying to get in,", Swofford replied: "Yes, it would (surprise him.) I base that on talking to their presidents and their AD’s who have told me that there have been absolutely no contact or conversation with the Big 12. The Big 12 commissioner told me the same thing yesterday.

Just seconds ago on 104.9 in Austin, Chip Brown says GaTech has reached out to the Big 12.
