I was at the bar watching the game today. At the start of the third quarter, a guy had a heart attack. I ran over and waved at him. He died there in the bar, but I'm still pretty much a hero. I let all of the local media know about it, so you should be hearing my story of bravery and courage soon.
Big ****ing deal. I'm a bigger hero than you because I put a sticker on my car for ANW (America Needs Waves), so I actually bring attention to the issue all over the place. You can't even put a price on that.

I work at UIHC. I assure you and any a-hole doubters it is still bad. They have eased up some in recent years, but I still meet patients and visitors who are quite traumatized with the difficulties of getting to the hospital on gameday.

Wow. Good to know

99% of the Hawk fans that wave aren't thinking about the kids, they are thinking about how great they are for doing it and how much press the hawks will get for it. It SHOULD be a great tradition but if you talk to any fan about it you know where their concern really lies. Thankfully the kids are probably too young to pick up on any disingenuous motive and like the gesture.

Parking at the UIHC is a ripoff to begin with. Don't get me wrong I am glad to have such a great health facility down the road and it has saved at least two family members lives. That being said the hodge podge assembly of the hospital and parking ramps plus how much they charge is ridiculous. Want to spend the day with family members visiting someone in the ICU. Hope you have $10/day.

Also last time I knew from a friend that worked there they were on a hiring freeze other than nurses due to how much money they are owed from medicare. They struggle to get the staff they do because of the crappy parking situation too (staff are not allowed to park at the hospital). Also had a friend that worked for a pace maker company that pulled out of there because the UIHC would screw up billing and they wouldn't get what they were owed while billing the patient some exorbitant amount.

Saw a picture on Twitter of all the fans, the officials and the whole Minnesota team and coaching staff waving at the Hospital but Iowa's players and coaches were not. Do any Hawkeye fans know why the team and coaches don't acknowledge it but visiting teams do?

This was a topic of discussion on Monday, and man did it get Leistikow mad. Apparently, they don't have 15 seconds to spare in the time stoppage between quarters. That time must be used for coaching.

It looks really bad when the other team participates and they don't. Really bad. Guess this is the downfall to making this gesture so publicized. Better be on best behavior while the cameras are filming.

Of course Chad is upset about it lol. I agree I think it's a bad look they don't even acknowledge them when everyone else does

This is literally the case. The refs, the security staff, people tailgating outside the stadium, the people in the press box. The Iowa players and coaching staff are literally the only ones not participating and the optics of it are horrible.

If you are going to promote it like they have and TV is going to wait to go to commercial in order to broadcast it, then the players and coaches need to participate. I don't care how much time or money they donate. As an outsider, that 15 seconds is my only exposure to it and to see everyone participate except the Iowa team is pathetic.

Idk if I was a player or coach I would enjoy waving to the kids. Hell I might go to the cyhawk game next year and I’ll look forward to waving at the kids.

Why does donating money mean you don’t have to wave?

They have obviously been told by the coaches to not participate and pay attention to the coaches instead. I don't get it. It should be obvious that the optics of this will be terrible.

Leistikow was just trying to justify these horrible optics by bring up Kirk's donation.

I think it is a nice gesture to wave at these kids, and I am sure they enjoy the attention, as do their parents, which are dealing with a lot. I agree completely that it just plain looks bad that everyone in the entire stadium, including the other team and their coaches have the time to wave, and the Iowa players and coaches do not. I'm sure the players and coaches all do a lot more for these kids than 90% of the people waving, it just plain looks bad. I bet they will be waving this Saturday.
