Idea... Instead of waving, how about an effort to raise some money for the children's hospital prior to the game?

Could be something as simple as bringing spare change to donate on game day... "Change for Children" or something along those lines. If 50,000 fans each brought a quarter, that'd be $12,500.

Or could start a GoFundMe online if that'd be easier for everyone. "Cash for Kids" in that case.
The Greek system at ISU does a Dance Marathon each year. The money raised goes to support children at U of I Hospitals. This would be a great way to wave.

Agree. except I wish there was a mechanism to give the money to the families as well.

And please no cardinal and gold Wave billboard shirts. If you want to actually help, just send the whole $30 to the hospital, I'm sure they'll take it without you buying a shirt.

Or maybe support Blank Children's Hospital and our kid captain's families too.

Yeah I think it's cool what they do and would be nice if we could do something. However, I am not sure who I would be waving to unless the kids in the hospital were watching the game on TV I suppose. Just seems forced. It's a good tradition at Iowa. What Hawk fans should do on the bye week is go buy some toys and take them up to the kids in the hospital every year. That would make more sense than me waving at nothing.

If I remember correctly Michigan State did it when Iowa was there. I would agree with the No crowd. Makes it less special IMO and in all reality how many of them will have it on anyway?

No, there isn't a hospital to wave to. Great tradition they have started, but this would just be a way for them to continue their circlejerk when they are on a bye week.

Waving at Vet Med not a good idea but it is nearby.

Obviously a great idea for home games and cool when the opposing teams do it for the away games. Just doesn't make a lot of sense for us to do it when it's pretty unlikely many of those tvs would be tuned to ISU/KU, plus Fox would probably not even show it on tv.

If we do the wave, then we should pass buckets during the wave to collect donations. Then this could become something with actual tangible benefits. I'm not too excited about doing this wave, but I could get on board if we one-up the Hawks and take it to another level. Then put helmet stickers or patches on their uniform that say "AHC".

Edit: If we actually do this, don't ask for something weak like quarters. Ask for whatever people can donate. It should be easy to collect at least $50k-100k.

dumb idea that doesn't make a lot of sense imo. These kids won't be watching the game, and it doesn't involve the Hawkeyes at all. Sure we played them, but Michigan State also played them. Does that mean they'll be waving on Saturday too?

I think other schools have done it, so whatever.

Sometimes I wonder if people just do good things like volunteering, etc. for their own adulation/ego and this 'wave' thing feels like that.

Do they wear an ANF shirt at the same time?
