Three turnovers and two blocked punts...

The semantics around whether a punt block is a turnover aside, the momentum shift is such a huge deal along with the sudden loss of field position.

Surviving two is just crazy.

I went back and looked. Iowa was in ISU territory 4 times, 2 times from the blocked punt, 1 time from the Dekkers int, and the final drive of the game. Take the mistakes out and this game is not close.
the final drive doesn't count, they were gifted that field position, they didn't earn it against our D

I surprised we don’t have a better punter considering what a weapon that would be with our defense.

It was poor special teams and very costly turnovers on the obvious side- which I hope we clean up.
The hard part for me is the inside the 10 play calls. Dekkers doesn’t understand running the ball or he can’t do it, neither of those are good. He just shouldn’t have designed runs unless it’s a sneak. Give the ball to Brock or something to X (reverse) instead of wasting a down.
I couldn't watch the game live, so I assumed the bolded part was an overreaction. But watching a replay now, it definitely seems like Dekkers just doesn't have a great feel for running the ball. A few plays before Brock's goal line fumble, there was a Dekkers designed run where Brock was supposed to be the lead blocker. Brock went right through the gap the offensive line created to get a block at the second level, but Dekkers just didn't follow him and kind of tried to bounce out, getting tackled for no gain immediately.

If his instincts improve, Dekkers could be great as both a passer and runner, but to me it just doesn't look like that aspect of the game has clicked for him.

Could be. That win felt amazeballs, I don't care about any of the details as long as we somehow beat ToE. But that Iowa team is super broken and honestly just isn't very good. I want to see how we do against an actually good team in two weeks vs BU.
But you know it's their superbowl. That's why they're so hard to beat

I believe we lost the #1 high school punter in nation to Colorado. He's getting plenty of action there and smart move on that kids part going to high altitude U. May make pros more possible.
But we landed I think a top 5 Kohl's kid if I'm thinking clearly. Heck of a leg. But this 3 step kicking is total BS.

Maybe this has been mentioned before, and I don't know if it would have made any difference... but if you watch the slo mo replays of the first block, it looks like our punter just shanked it into the eiu defenders helmet. I only mention it because I was at the first game, and he shanked a punt pretty badly there too. Maybe not something that affects the outcome, except if he hadn't shanked it, who knows?

Might be his worst team since year 1. You can be a way below average power 5 team and be 3-0 against Ohio, SEMO, and this Iowa team. West Virginia and Kansas looked Saturday like they would have beat Iowa/ISU last Saturday and they probably are the two worst in conference. It is way to soon to tell.

Definitely too soon to tell, but IMO this is a better team than 2021 and 2019. Not as good as 2020 and on par with 2017. We'll see I guess.

I feel like we'll see Dekkers throw some picks now and then because he's young and likes to push the ball down the field some. But Brock's fumble was a total fluke...he's not going to be fumble prone. And punt protection can be shored up...even if it's at the expense of coverage a little.
