Wasn't there a guard by the last name of Love that never made it on the court also? He played in an exhibition game but never was eligible. Big strong and could handle the ball.
I just remember Lee Love. I think he was in the class with fizer. He played a year or two and that was it. Some more names from the Floyd Era that never panned out were Lamont Sides, Ty Shine, and Rodney Hampton. All guards. We almost landed Earl Watson from KC also. Went to UCLA.

It was an exhibition game he had 19 points shot lights out- Then my dad said...."You won't be confused about the two Loves for long. He hasn't got the grades or a qualifying ACT score and he is never going to get them"

One of my high school buddies lived either on the same floor or one above/below as Lee Love. I don't think that guy ever spent a dollar at ISU. He had 2-3 girls and 2-3 guys that would let him use their car at anytime and he never paid for any gas. He was constantly asking to "borrow" things from people. The joke was by the end of the year he was having to go to the top floor to find someone that didn't know about his "borrowing" system.

Floyd came to speak at the summer ISU golf outing in Exira the week he was hired. He was very funny and said "and I heard that Hoiberg kid can play a little" when someone asked what he knew about ISU. I golfed with Pete Taylor that afternoon...what a great memory.

I was there as well, I was 15 but remember Floyd was great in front of the crowd. My dad and I golfed with Gene Smith. That fall he spent a Sunday combining with us.

Maybe I get wrung up here: But first: I loved Floyd. I do honestly believe Floyd wrote a text book to all coaches on the art and science of getting an opportune technical. True, Prohm is quickly gathering my attention, but Floyd could be my favorite coach in Cyclone Basketball history.

But........... I can't be the only one who thought he flirted with legality too much while at Iowa State. We tolerated it because he won........but something didn't quite smell right.

I believe you are correct that Henderson was the one who lit up that game. He didn't qualify. Ended up as one of the best players ever at La Tech. Bruton was the Aussie from Indian hills. #1 juco point guard in America. I believe they ruled him ineligible due to taking some money to play ball down under professionally. It was a weird deal.

I think that was the same outing that Jim Walden spoke about a kid named Troy Davis enrolling at ISU that fall.

I think there could have been some "politics" involved when Floyd got hired. Gene Smith was bent on easing our legendary coach (Johnny O) out of the limelight. Johnny did everything he could to get his assistant Jim Hallihan the job by delaying his retirement until late spring. My recollection is we were not having much better luck than Tenn. currently is in finding a new football coach. We talked to Floyd and he initially turned down the job. All things were pointing to Jim H.. My understanding is it took much lobbying by Gary T., who was on the search committee to get Tim to finally come to ISU. There were several who raised an eyebrow over Tim's salary. Today it would not even register on the meter.

Yet three other players that did the same as Bruton played that season. There had to be more to it. The kid that got 23 semester hours in SUMMER SCHOOL played for Mizzou- 23 Effin Hrs WTF!

If I recall correctly there were kids that were teammates on that team with Bruton that were deemed eligible but Bruton was not.

Just the NCAA doing NCAA things...
