Time for Fred to get tossed

Take what? Officiating was fine. The disparity in fouls is because we have ZERO inside game and shoot outside shot after outside shot.

We lost to a much better team. Simple as that.

Correct.

I find it funny that so many have been making fun of Fran's antics and suddenly Fred should do the same.

the refs were atrocious, but it wouldn't have changed the outcome and neither would Hoiberg getting tossed. a 23 point loss should have been a 17 point loss...whoopty-doo.

you cannot say that the refs were "fine" when a team doesn't shoot a FT until 35 mins of the game are up. even the announcers called it out saying they'd never seen anything like that.

Maybe to you. The line was 18.5 and I bet the Clones. Those Refs stole my credits. DE TOOK ME CREDITS!

LOL..not having seen that has nothing to do with whether the officiating was ok or not. There is no set rule that each team should be called for "x" number of fouls. You have to drive to the bucket and create body contact to get fouled. ISU does not do that. End result...very few fouls and trips to the line.

No impartial observer would have watched that game and thought ISU was getting screwed by the refs. We simply didn't create situations for our team that lead to getting fouled. Easy as that.

LOL..We didn't lose because of the refs. No one is saying we lost because of the refs.

LOL..The officiating was f***ing terrible. Blatantly one sided. Impartial observers would have had no trouble noticing this. We were getting points in the paint the first half, more than Texas, and did not shoot a free throw.

LOL..When Calvin Godfrey, a big guy, goes hard at the hoop for a dunk and gets smashed to the ground hard and nothing is called, that tells me the refs swallowed their whistle because it's Iowa State vs Texas. That tells an impartial observer that the refs swallowed their whistle because it's Iowa State vs Texas. By the way, I wonder how Calvin's back is doing? Texas drew up a great lob play that was designed for the horn player to use Calvin's back to springboard him to catch the high lob pass. It's a special play opponents get to use against us. No stopping it really. Just good basketball I guess?

LOL..I think Melvin must have brushed against Hamilton's fingernail on that free throw attempt. Ref was right on top of that one.

LOL..Jordan Railey has to learn to not mimick ANY OTHER POST PLAYER IN THE BIG 12 CONFERENCE WHEN TRYING TO SET A SCREEN. His rules are different than everyone else's when it comes to illegal screens. Too bad those same rules don't apply to Marshall Moses of OSU (or any other post player in this conference) or we'd have 2 conference wins right now.

I didn't watch most of the first half (the game started earlier than I anticipated and my working out and my cleaning up caused me to miss most of it), and I'll admit I'm not much of a basketball expert, but I have a lot of problems with especially the bolded statement.

Since when did outscoring an opponent in the paint entitle us to trips to the free throw line? Perhaps Texas played clean defense where they didn't make a lot of fouling contact in the first half? I mean, that can't be a possible explanation - I mean, it's not like Texas isn't a top 5 team in the nation, with their outstanding team defense being the major reason why they're as good as they are. I mean, part of the reason why their defense is that good can't possibly have something to do with the fact they don't commit silly fouls that average teams ordinarily would.

Like I said, I didn't watch much of the first half, so perhaps we did get hosed. But I refuse to take the excuse of "we outscored Texas in the paint and didn't get to the free throw line once" as proof that the officials were out to get us.

Those refs give a bad reputation to other refs. Someone in the stands could have done a better job. Their ref mancard should be revoked. And yes, we were going to lose anyway. Suggest you rewatch the game on espn3 like I did today and still say the refs were okay.

again...what exactly are they "taking"?

Some of you folks have real blinders on.

This is exactly right. We don't get to the line because we shoot jump shots, guys are not going to foul you while you are shooting 22 foot jump shots. It is that simple, and that is how basketball works. Anyone suggesting otherwise doesn't know what they are talking about.

Fred getting a T does nothing to help us. For some posters to suggest that Fred (or Greg McDermott) has no pride because they don't satisfy some posters caveman instincts by acting like a god damn fool in a 30 point game is insane.

I have thought Fred has done well at going to the refs and barking a bit around the TV timeouts and when we have called them too.

The OU game, I think he was darn close to getting a T during one of those TO's. *That was by far the "poorest" ref performance against us in the season IMO* I just think Freddy talks to them with class and asks questions on what they really saw and he tells them what HE saw.....also, Freddy is not an "F Bomb" type of guy, I think that keeps him from getting T's, etc...

The thing is, when we are a jump shooting first team, we are not going to get calls....and we are sure as hell not going to get calls now when we are 1-12.

To the fans, it looks like the coach actually cares whats going on and doesn't seem lackadaisical or indifferent on what is going on in the game.....at least to me, rather than the coach standing there like a certain previous coach, who wouldn't even get mad if the ref slept with his wife in his bed, and ran off with her and stole his car....thats a figure of speech....

Not all fans need to see a coach getting T's and getting tossed. I think Fred does a fine job getting in the refs face during timeouts but doesnt go overboard. I just hardly see the need for a coach to blow up everytime something goes bad, maybe thats me. But if fans are fickle enough to need a coach to get tossed to t'd up to show they care, then i see that as pretty pathetic.

This is dumb. I knew it was a matter of time before everybody worried about his demeanor. The cool-calm approach has worked well for Butler. I'm just saying.

Fred as a rookie head coach, going all Pelini on guys isn't going to do much for Iowa State. In fact, it will probably hurt more than help. Once you build a good relationship, then you get the right to get a little upset when necessary

Also anyone who watched the game at HIlton on Saturday knew that Fred was going nuts and asking for a T. Just because he doesn't get one, doesn't mean he isn't on the refs.

I wasn't able to watch tonight, but you don't see everything on TV, so it is likely he was on the refs as well tonight.

This is very true. He was on the refs' *** pretty hard a couple time at the A&M game. That usually doesn't show up on TV but you see it clearly in person. Fred definitely lets the refs know what he's thinking.

The person who was the master of this that you all are referring to was Dr. Tom Davis. Nobody knew it -- even those fans in attendance -- because he was a genius at disguising it. He constantly ripped the officials.

And getting a technical "to fire up the team" does no good -- especially when a team is on the road like ISU last night. MAYBE, and I say that with tongue-in-cheek, a getting a technical at home does a "little good", but not much.

This is true. I know a D-I official who told me Dr. Tom is the biggest jerk he ever worked with. But he did it with his camera face on so no one ever knew.

I disagree that Fred needs to get tossed to make his point with the refs. Even watching on TV I have been able to see Fred get his points across to the officials very clearly. There are some officials who may be intimidated by a coach. There are others who will get ****** off if you show them up and you won't get the benefit of the doubt on any calls. I don't think any officials will be intimidated by a first year D-I coach. I would prefer that Fred is Fred rather than trying to be someone else. When/if he really blows (as much as Fred Hoiberg will ever blow-up), he will have a reputation for a level head and the officials will be more likely to believe that they really blew the call.

As far as the officiating goes, Texas drew more fouls and deserved to have more calls. However, the disparity was ridiculous. I don't buy the argument that ISU was not aggressive enough, either. I watched Iowa State players, front and back court alike, pass up a jump shot and drive in only to get hacked and no whistle. Obviously ISU was way overmatched and it likely didn't decide the game. However, to say that justice was blind may actually be ironically accurate in this case. Those distributing justice at times did appear to be blind. It was curious that when the game was clearly decided that suddenly ISU got a few calls and shot a few FT's. I don't believe in and am not suggesting a conspiracy, but it was curious.

Hopefully when Fred has ISU consistently in the top half of the conference, he will be getting the calls rather than getting screwed by them.

I don't see CFH getting tossed or even a "T"
He's to poised and well disciplined.
Plus I'm sure he's more concerned about his own heart condition, than screaming at a ref.

I thought I heard that exertion or stress was not the problem/risk with Fred's condition. I think he retired due to a risk of catastrophe with a well placed blow to the chest.

Hammered...LOL...hardly. The only play I saw that I thought should have been a foul on Texas that wasn't called was an allyoop to the big white guy that jumped over Godfrey's back and clobbered him trying to get to the ball.

Where the **** has this guy been all year? He obviously has NEVER been TO a game at Hilton this year we T A K E I T A L L T H E T I M E!!!! Anyone that actually goes to the game to support our guys would clearly see that

It is not likely that Fred will get a T. Its not his personality, he is way to level headed which will help in the long run. Officiating has hurt us, though not the cause to our 1-12 conference record, but it makes things a lot more painful.

In my opinion a coach getting tossed would do very little to help "get u calls". It may fire up a crowd at a home game, or in KC during the big 12 tourney, or fire up a flat team that wasn't playing hard or to their potential. Officials don't fear or respect a coach because he might go off or has thrown a temper tantrum, especially a 1st year coach with no coaching experience. Calmed and collected is more effective.

Sorry Velo I didnt see your post. I agree 100%.

Officiating hasn't hurt us any more than it has hurt any other team. Get real.

Apparently the world of refs is against ISU. It's a conspiracy!

No, many times in NCAA BB the refs see what they expect to see. The elite teams get the benefit of the doubt. ISU and especially Fizer benefitted from this toward the end of the Elite 8 year.
