Ok, I started growing a beard in August. My wife does not like the beard and was always commenting on when I am going to shave it off.

I have to admit that I thought we'd probably lose the Iowa game. During the week of the Iowa game, instead of fully giving into her demands I told her that I would shave when ISU loses.

As we all know, ISU has won their last two games in un-ISU fashion and are still undefeated. The wife's rhetoric has started to increase again. Do I finally give in and make the wife happy, or do I plead superstition and state that since I made the statement I have to see the thing thru.

How long have you had it? "Started in August" could mean anywhere from 3 weeks to 7 weeks and that can make a big difference when you're growing a beard. Have you tried trimming it or are you just letting it go as far as length, neckline, cheekline, etc? A little grooming can go a long way with the ladies.

Shave. Your beard had no superstitious impact on the games. My new I-State Nike polo, however, is 2-0 since my sister gave it to me for my birthday. I am not washing it as long as we are on a winning streak.

Keep the beard. My new Jake Knott jersey is 3-0 on gameday. Also, I've worn the same suit pants, dress shirt, ISU tie and belt buckle to work each Friday on game weekends and they've won. I'm not going to be the scapegoat for a loss.

Also, just keep in mind, if the women don't find you handsome, at least they'll find you handy.

I have a long sleeve I-State T that I wore to the TX v ISU game in Austin. I wore different ISU t-shirts through games thereafter that we lost. I wore the lucky long sleeve tee for each of the first 3 games this season and we won.

So go ahead and shave. Its not your beard. My t-shirt rocks.

I have the opposite problem, my wife likes it when I grow my beard out and doesn't want me to shave it off when I get tired of it in the spring.

I'm not superstitious, as Edmund Burke said, superstition is the religion of feeble minds.

As for your wife, 2 comments. First, if her complaint is that she doesn't like how it feels when she kisses you, give it time. Once it gets long enough, it lays down and feels softer.

Second, if her complaint is that she doesn't like the way it looks, tell her that your facial hair choice is yours. If she does what my wife did when I first started growing a beard (commenting about it every day), ask her to think about how she would feel if she got a new haircut that she thought looked really cute, she came home and I said I thought it was ugly, she should change it, and then continued to say that every day until she went back to the stylist. I think that would be very rude and inconsiderate, and that my facial hair is the same thing. That stopped it pretty quickly.
