Complete beat-down of A&M at College Station. Embarrassing, actually. Blythe had 8 catches, 214 yards and 4 TDs.

I totally forgot that Blythe was on the team for Chizdicks first year.

A$M's secondary was completely befuddled out there that day. They were crashing into each other all over the place, they had no idea what to do. I think the defensive coordinator got canned soon afterwards.

aTm finished that season dead last in the NCAA in pass defense (304.6 ypg), and 107th of 117 in total defense (443.8 ypg).

IMO, Todd Blythe never fully recovered emotionally after being face raped in college...

I always thought he had speed, height, and hands. Great catching passes in the vertical game. Then he wrecked his knee and the speed never came back. He couldn't be a possession receiver. My admittedly amateur opinion.
Jordy Nelson had a little more speed than Todd and it makes a difference. Of course, Jordy is injured right now...

Blythe is a 6'5 Jerry Rice. The only reason he isn't on his way to the HOF is because NFL is racist against white wide receivers.

That team was ridiculous. I don't know how we only won seven games that year in a weak Big XII. Defense was stacked with Jason Berryman, Tim Dobbins and DeAndre Jackson. Blythe was an animal and Meyer was the best QB we've had a long time. I wish our current coaching staff could go back in time.

3 OT losses that all should have been wins, along with a loss to freaking Baylor at home. The OT losses were all on the road. First at kNebraska where a Zac Taylor pass hit Nick Leaders in the chest in OT...if Nick had caught it, the game was over.

Second, at Mizzou, where we spotted them a 14-0 lead in the first quarter on interception AND fumble returns for TD's, then scored 24 straight points while knocking Brad Smith out of the game, only to watch some unknown by the name of Chase Daniel come in and light us up. Then the refs blew a call right before the end of regulation (I think) when a Mizzou ball carrier fumbled the ball over to us, only to have the ref from all the way on the other side of the field come running in to say that his forward motion had been stopped, so he was down....only it clearly had not been on replay.

And we all know what happened in the game at KU. 3 timeouts, wind at your back with about 90 second left in the game, score is tied with a shot at the Big 12 championship game on the line and the most prolific receiver in ISU history standing out wide of the formation......and McCarney chooses to go to OT.

That, my fellow Cyclone fan friends.....is THE lost football season. That team had the talent to get a 10 win season. A few bad breaks and a few mind-numbing coaching decisions kept it down to just simply a mediocre season. Not that I'm still bitter or anything.

Think I still have most of that season on VHS.

It wasn't just the terrible 2006 season that ended the McCarney era. The very disappointing 2005 season with all that talent was also a big reason.
