Actually I think one of the traits of Fred's teams is that they improve and play their best basketball at the end of the year. He's had a few clunkers but also has had some big road wins and is usually competitive. Compare Fred's road record and scores with Johnny Orr's, who is considered one of our great coaches. Too many of us thought this was the year to end the KU conference streak since they looked bad in some of their non-conference games, but they have a young improving team and Kansas is still Kansas. Crazy things can still happen in the next month, we're 1-1 against them and can still beat them in Kansas City. And OU is playing as well as anybody in the conference right now. I just don't get some of the panic with some fans right now and people need to remember the GMac years when they get frustrated about an occasional loss.

Great reasoned perspective CYKO. Thank you for bringing balance and wisdom back to this thread.

From 2006-2007 through 2010-2011, ISU finished in the bottom three slots of the Big 12, when there were 12 teams. We're currently in 3rd place of the conference that has 6 ranked teams. Sure, there are some things that can improved, but man, what we're seeing is so much better and fun to watch than what we had not too long ago.
McDullball, those were the days.

Does anyone notice every team we play on the road always shoots lights out? Hmmmm.....

It is crazy to think teams will shoot a better percentage on their home floor that they are familiar with. Not to mention in front of their home crowd.

Some of the stuff on here is absolutely hilarious! Now someone claims that many of us are saying this team has "no talent!" That's crap. I have not read one post that says we have no talent. We have terrific talent. But it's talent with weaknesses. Weaknesses that opposing coaches and teams are exploiting. Other than TT, the "desire," effort, whatever, has been there. But weaknesses are weaknesses. Teams like KU and UK have talent with less weaknesses than our group. It happens. Fred gets more out of his guys than any coach in America, and yet he and his team are called out for not achieving at the level some on here want. Do you think they want that too? Of course they do! But guess what? They have a MUCH smaller margin of error. That's reality.

"This team does lack toughness and desire too IMO. It takes toughness to play defense for 40 mins, and we don't do that. And we look like we don't care sometimes too... that's all about lack of desire to be a winner." Clonedude

Statistics are tangible: ISU rank in conference
Scoring defense 10th
FG% defense 7th
3 pt FG% defense 8th
Steals 8th

Off Rebound 9th
Def Rebound 6th
Rebounds 6th

FT% 7th

Defense, rebounding, & free throws require desire, toughness, & concentration - which is what clone dude said & is what the stats clearly demonstrate.

On a positive note we lead the league in almost every offensive category!

ISU’s greatest challenge is not with the level of talent on the team. Rather it is filling the hole left by an outstanding defensive assistant coach like Doc Sadler. Sadler had a reputation for demanding the maximum from his effort from his players in practice as well as games. He built teams that ranked as high as number 15 nationally in defense. Add that element to Fred’s immense skill set and watch were the team goes over time.

Who's going to be the leader next year if we don't have one now? We are returning a lot of guys.

We are going to be fine. Next year will be even better. Plenty of talent coming in, and Plenty of talent on the roster now.

We have leaders. We may not have a go to guy thats a "sure" finish at the rim when you need it, but we have leaders.

The difference between KU/Duke and us is like night and day. Self and K have shown throughout previous seasons that they can consistently get their teams to improve, challenge good teams on the road, and put bad losses behind them. Under Fred we have consistently shown to be midgets away from Hilton. Moreover we have NOT shown improvement throughout the season; I'd say we've actually regressed in many areas.

Every team has bad games. But the ability for the coaches and players to: put those losses behind them, show improvement in areas that are causing those losses, and show improvements in overall team play is lacking with this team.

That's why people are upset, and that's why Kansas is set to win it's 50th straight Big 12 championship. They ALWAYS do those things.

Nope no improvement. Man what a difference ten days makes.

I didn't know this ZRF fool until tonight. But a quick look at his previous posts and I'm pegging him as a Kansas fan.

I've waited for a couple weeks to post this but can't wait any longer. This team lacks a real leader and has no mental toughness. They will make the tourney and maybe win a game. However, I don't see them advancing after 2nd round. Talent galore but mental midgets.
Your post is bad and you should feel bad.

No doubt! What an improvement we've seen.

We've seen an improvement, no doubt. But I think we also need to realize that the situation we were in played a part in those two losses. First, I don't think it can be overstated that playing on the road on Big Monday is really, really tough. Add in playing two really good teams. I don't think it is a coincidence that we played well in the first half of both games and then kind of tanked. I think it is obvious that Kansas was extra hyped for our game. And Oklahoma is a tough match up for us. I think that Hoiberg knew that we had a good chance to lose to Oklahoma.

We were just as tough then, but lost to better teams than UT and Ok St on a quick turnaround.

It's funny how people think that you are being negative by saying that Baylor or Oklahoma have a chance to beat us at home, but yet seem to think that we should have no problem beating Kansas and Oklahoma on the road.

Drives me crazy. Much like when people talk about how we give up leads.....the other team has something to do with that. We aren't playing against ourselves.

I respect the heck out of the players and coach Hoiberg. However, the team was lacking the toughness and leadership a great team needs. Do I still need to feel bad?

Well, this team had some serious toughness to be able to make all those comebacks. Just a horrible habit to get used to; playing with fire. NCAA tourney time and you can't get away with that.
