I forgot how great of a blocker Troy was. That video shows a little bit of his blocking. He would always pick up the blitz and normally crush a much bigger guy while doing it. Darren was also a pretty good blocker. The Davis's were just really well rounded players.

Omaha World Herald article this morning mentioned that Troy was recruited by Mc Carney which is and is not true. Walden recruited Troy initially as I remember it, but Dan had to recruit him all over again to keep him at ISU. I'm glad he did. I remember ISU's last game of the Walden era at Colorado and Troy as a freshman ran a kick off or punt a long distance for a TD. I think that was the only time Troy played that year, but I may be wrong. I remember being pi$$ed at Walden for not using him more. But it didn't matter, Walden had already been fired.

The OWH had the aricle on TD probably because Marlin Briscoe of UNO was inducted to the HOF along with Troy. Briscoe was one of the first NFL black QB's. Probably should have been in the Hall a long time ago as is the case with Troy.

And evidently you didn't see TD run in college either. Barry at least had a good Oline to open holes for him, TD had nothing up front, no passing game (other than him on swing passes) and still went for over 2000 yards twice. A lot of his yards came in the first halves of games too since the team was usually behind in the second half they passed more.

No one is saying Barry Sanders wasn't an incredible back, but to just toss TDs name out of that conversation is idiotic.

Where did I throw TDs name out of the conversation? Total yards is NOT the end all point that makes a great RB now is it? You think Barry had a great O-Line at Okie State? Think again.
If total yards is the true measuring point (according to you), then E. Smith must have been the all-time greatest NFL back & I guess Barry (#3) & Jim Brown (#9) wouldnt even be in the conversation?

I remember Troy had at least one carry during the Walden era. He came onto the field to a great ovation. I believe he had 1 carry for something like 13 yards. Left the field and was never seen again.

Troy played in 9 games as a freshman in 1994. 35 carries for 187 yards.

Ah, man, I wish he had come back to play his senior year. Best times I have ever had watching ISU football in person were the games when he was running rampant.

I did some looking online to see if I could find any images of the TD Yard-O-Meter but all I could find was a little teeny jpeg that is only 2.4 kb

You are rite on....Arnie Romero on Jim Walden's staff recruited Troy and it was a Kick Off return for a Touchdown in Boulder in the last game of the 1994 season....Great Memories..................

Troy was a better back in college than Barry Sanders? ROTFLMAO
You never saw Barry run in college did you?
Maybe you should go back and read what I actually wrote. I said even though I am a Cyclone fan I don't have any delusions that Troy was better than Sanders. That means I recognize that Sanders was one of the best backs to ever play the game. Maybe if you would quit rolling around on the floor your reading would improve.

You know why Barry Sanders didn't go for over 2000 yards twice? Because he was good enough to be the #3 overall pick in the draft after his junior season. He would have easily went for over 2000 again if he played more than 1 college season as a starter. Troy couldn't sniff the first round even if he came back for his senior year. I don't want to turn this into anything negative about Troy, but he had absolutely nothing on Barry Sanders. Take of your blinders. Sanders is the best rb to ever play the game.
