I think it is way to early for JP to have offered someone or had any official contact.
Did someone (3rd party) make contact? Probably.
Is Buffalo acting on its own and offering an extension. Likely.
Is Gill accepting the extension and staying because no one has officially talked to him and offered? Probably.
I don't see JP interviewing anyone until tomorrow just based off the timing of everything. The 3rd party org has to run the background checks and make the initial out reach before the interview takes place. This is just my speculation but to me makes sense based on how JP seems to work.

LOL....and so the fun begins.

I'm gonna sit back and enjoy JP's smoke and mirrors and remain confident I will be thrilled with the hire at the end of the day when it is announced.

First we were all saying how pissed we'd be if Pollard didn't talk to Gill, now we're reassuring ourselves that we're still an ok job because Pollard didn't even talk to Gill. I'm having trouble keeping up.

Didn't the last coaching search teach us anything? Nobody is going to know who it is, until Pollard lets us know who it is. All this wishing , wanting , and speculation is a total waste of time and effort, and can actually make ISU look desperate, and silly. However it is kind of fun to watch.

Not much else to do on a cold snowy Dec afternoon.......At least people are excited again instead of jumping out windows like a few were doing last Friday and Saturday.

Re: Why Gill turning us down is bad...

Yeah. I have a grip. I posted it before we knew that they hadn't spoke, ok? Besides, I thought it was a humorous analogy.

Big thing to keep in mind Al_4_State is the way the coaching search went when we hired Chizdik. Jamie Pollard told us again yesterday that after the conference he would be talking to no one in the press about the coaching search until they were announcing him as coach. We know from the last search that, either with help from Jamie or not, many different stories came out and sports talking heads knew we were going to get Harbaugh, Brian Kelly, and then Martha's dentist told him he KNEW we would be announcing the next day that Jay Norvell was the next HC. Jamie made fools of all of them and I would say it is safe to assume that he enjoyed all the second guessing of his actions/intentions. And then we get blindsided by, up until this last weekend, the hiring of the next #1 HC and all were pumped.

I am pretty sure Jamie is going to have more fun with this at the sports media's expense all the while working his butt off to get the best hire in here he can get. I am going to sit back and enjoy the ride and am fully looking forward to the pleasant surprise of who our next head coach is. I also hope the next two years go better then what Chizdik brought as well.

Sorry for sounding so harsh in my post. I was going to go back and edit it but seen it already had been quoted so figured it wouldn't do any good.....

This guy right here nailed it. These coaching searches are the best cloak and dagger movies out there anymore. To me the mess that was Auburn and Chizik was an example of two desperate entities.

Truly no one has a clue if person X was or wasn’t offered. It’s called plausible deniability. ISU doesn’t want to be turned down by a Buffalo coach & Gill doesn’t want anyone to think he wasn’t even offered or his team to think he was bolting them for team X. Everyone probably understood he’d interview for and possible leave for Auburn, but a 2nd interview in a couple weeks, reeks of a prison break!

Now obviously many of you know this but for one side to say definitively we didn’t offer or the other side to say we weren’t contacted at all means nothing but “we won’t be getting together†annnnnnnnndddddd even then you never know……..

LOL, yup. Maybe this hire won't go down that way, but I keep thinking back to the Chizik hire and how no one knew he was the guy. And no one thought we could get him (I guess we couldn't keep him) Anyways, Until I hear an official "It is this guy or is not that guy." I'm going to be with you, just enjoying watching it all unfold.

I've been trying to keep up ever since I joined CF back in April of 2006...

My advice: sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!

Update per Marty's website, he talked with Mooney the attorney.

Jamie Pollard was told flatly, “No” by UBuffalo head coach Turner Gill earlier today.
Gill’s attorney Steve Mooney is scheduled to appear on “Marty & Miller” at 4:05 today. Mooney is traveling to Texas today and says the Gill to Iowa State possibilities are “dead”.

Re: MARTY TIRRELL - TURNER A NO GO

Gene Chizik was "not interested" very early in the process 2 years ago. This is the way Jamie Pollard plays ball. Buffalo shouldn't have to release any press releases if he isn't taking the job.

All media reports must be taken with a grain of salt. Although, I won't be crying if Gill doesn't take the job.

Agree. Bufallo wouldn't be releasing press releases and have just reupped his contract if there wasn't concern there. So JP hasn't talked to Gill's Lawyer yet, perhaps that happens tonite. He has just upped the stakes by getting his client a better contract at Buffalo first.

Rumors of planes going to Atlanta where the lawyer is....

Who knows...

If what you have quoted is true, it does not look good for us. It's possible that Gill has an attitude that ISU is worthless from his days at Nebraska. I don't know...

How is it not good for us if one guy is not interested in coming here?

We're really just in Day 1 of this thing and people are already in doom-n-gloom mode. Get a grip!

It's the Buffalo thing I'm having a hard time with. It just suggests that we have that low of a reputation. That is all. I feel that there are several other very good candidates out there, but if Gill was that set against ISU that he's come to this point quickly, there must be a reason, you know?
