Maybe Gilbert just isn’t as good as we all think, he has moments he looks great but he’s mostly just a turnover machine
I've noticed Keshon early in the year would pause in the lane, stop moving and stick his butt out, and people would bump into him and he would get a foul call.

Now teams have scouted him and they aren't falling for that move anymore.

Some plays he's just running into 3 guys with no plan in place. It's like confusing. He needs to get it figured out for tournament. WE are an awesome team when he is playing great.

He was REALLY pressing last night.

I think its tough to "let the game come to you" when so much of your game is driving into traffic to force the issue. Gonna need him to figure it out though. You can see how much he cares abt the team and how much he wants to do his part.

And he still plays great defense regardless.

Gilbert needs to figure out that ball movement opens up those opportunities though. 90% of his drives are off of zero motion and him taking out 2 if not 3 defenders. The refs aren't going to bail you in those scenarios.

Him and Jones had terrible games last night and we still beat one of the best teams in the Big 12 handily. I'll take that anytime.

It's a fair conversation though. This team can't come anywhere close to maxing out if our top 2 guards account for 10 TO's. There's no sugar coating it, it's concerning.

I agree with you but I think it’s okay to discuss areas of improvement, even in a very good win.

I looked at ISU turnovers in games against NCAA tournament teams this year and here is where we landed:

Auburn 9
Dayton 7
Marquette 12
Baylor 12
Tech 15
KU 13
WV 14
Arizona 18
Kansas 7
Cinci (?) 18
Houston 12
Arizona 16

So outside of a couple anomalies and especially once teams got tape on this team, we turn the ball over. It feels odd because that’s not the hallmark of TJ’s teams but this isn’t going to be fixed, in my opinion. Just have to hope that offshooting nights don’t happen with above average turnover nights or well early exit March tournaments.
I believe that the NCAA average is right about 12 per game. So in half of the listed games ISU was at or below the average and in half they were above the average. The average for all of the games listed is 12.75 so not far from the NCAA average. Actually when you are around the NCAA average against only the best competition you faced all season it isn't great but the sky isn't falling either.

I am not happy about the trend of turnovers but every team is going to have weaknesses. If they can get control of some of the bad passes that simply aren't there and cut down on live ball turnovers I will be happy.

Keshon needs to realize that if he drives the lane and 3 people who up to stop and strip or block his shot, that means two of our guys are wide open with no defender on them. Let's kick it out. Also, when kicking it out it makes other teams not crash the lane to stop him, which means he is one on one and will win that battle more than not.
