I just got off the plane from attending the UCONN game on Friday and just wanted to share/vent about our experience at the game. The UCONN fans were absolutely the worst fans I've ever encountered, and I've been to road games at Iowa, Mizzou, Ok St., Nebby, Colorado, Kansas and K-state. We were threatened repeatedly even while we were in line to park before the game and had our car keyed while we were in the game. Inside the stadium we were harrassed pretty much through the entire game, it was just a terrible experience.
The atmosphere itself in the stadium was very poor as well, very "high school". They actually piped in crowd noise through all the speakers whenever ISU had the ball. It was not in the same galaxy as a typical Big 12 atmosphere. If the B12 collapses and we are sent looking for a new home, I would rather be in the MWC than to ever have to associate with UCONN fans again.

I guess we had a different experience--fans around us tailgating were friendly and wished us luck. No one bothered us at all...of course our group was 7 guys with an that averaged 6'3" and 275lbs.

In the stadium I agree. Not up to Big XII standards at all. Really a small stadium. Thought it was also really wierd that their were about 10 State Troopers standing behind the ISU section. Overall, not a great atmosphere for football.

im with you, the big east for football will be awful and destroy recruiting... we will be a shell of what we are currently, and that is bad. basketball could still be fine as that is a different animal. i never cared about any of this till now, and now i dont have a good feeling about the future of ISU football. i hope im wrong.

I was kind of indifferent to the Big East until this experience. I would just hate to see ISU having to play conference game at UCONN, Cinci etc...they are just not close to the same level with the current big 12 schools in terms of facilities, fan support, gameday atmosphere etc.

We had a great experience. Tailgated with UConn fans, drinks food and super hospitality. Never got hasseled by anyone and enjoyed the game. We simply walked around the tailgate area, stopped in to visit with some fans we had never met and spent the next couple of hours having fun. Seats were good. My only bad thing were the crummy refs, and they were from the Big 12.

I find this interesting. I had a great time and everybody I spoke to was nice. I went to Waquoit's tailgate and hung out with him and his family. They were all wonderful. I walked all through the tailgating crowd looking for him and never heard a bad thing from anyone.
Of course I grew up in Connecticut so east coasters make sense to me.

My buddies who went also repeated the OP's sentiments. Between the three of them, they had been to Iowa, Nebraska, Texas, Baylor, and Texas A&M. They said UConn fans were far worse than any of those schools.

And according to Bruns on the call in show a couple are from Des Moines.
