One of the dirty little secrets when it comes to this new found cash for the AD is that it is basically already spent just to keep up with rising costs and "the Jones'" in football and basketball. Not much trickles down to wrestling and other non revenues, unfortunately.

Yeah, like I said, it's not that we don't have the money, it's that JP doesn't give a crap about wrestling. He cares more about cross country than he does wrestling, because he's a runner and his son is a runner.

That's why Cael left. He knew wrestling was a low priority here. Looking back on it now, he made a great decision on his part. It sucked for ISU wrestling fans, but it was a great decision personally for him.

JP cares about football and basketball. Those bring in the money, so that makes some sense. I don't know that wrestling will ever be a priority.

ISU fans are in denial if they can't see UNI is on the way up the mountain and ISU continues to dig a cave at the bottom of the mountain. Don't be fooled, as I would wager UNI will from this point forward out recruit ISU by leaps and bounds. UNI will start getting recruits from IA to some degree also. What Doug has shown with the youngsters like Peters, Moore and Jensen is something. This is how programs rebuild. UNI has some energy of which ISU and IA for that matter lack at the moment. KJ has ran the program into the ground and it will only get worse. Kyven and the Moreno's would have come to ISU no matter who the coach was because of family ties. ISU has been a joke since Bael left Ames. ISU needs a new Head Coach ASAP!

Oh I have been around the entire time. I like to read more than post. ISU doesn't need me constantly piling on but it gets tough sometimes when the denial meter gets topped out:)

I don't see anyone really sticking up for KJ here, much less doing backflips about how things are going. Everyone has concerns and questions. The difference is that some people feel it will help if they come on the boards and freak out about losing to UNI!!!

Nobody likes losing to UNI. Or to anyone else for that matter. The pressure is already on, time will tell how the team responds and that will point us in the direction of what needs to happen with the staff. Griping about it here will have no effect either way.

Crowds (and interest) for ISU wrestling are way down - that has to be a big concern, regardless whether the loss to UNI is justifiable or not.

I agree. I will admit I dropped my tickets.
I can admit there is probably a group of of 6 or 7 close friends that ended up dropping their season tickets. They still donate to the CWC and attend the meets. I've had them since I was a little kid, and continue to have them. It's difficult at times, but I always step back and remember at least I'm not getting asked to increase my season ticket prices at a rate like the football or basketball guys!

So kind of lost in all this discussion is that Moreno's win last night was kind of a big deal for us. Even though Moreno beat him earlier in the season Moore was ranked ahead of Moreno by everyone but Intermat due to the losses Moreno took at the Scuffle and some wins that Moore has picked up. That win keeps Moreno in the conversation to AA and keeps his chances at getting a decent seed at nationals alive. And we need Moreno to AA if we are going to have a decent finish in March.

As a side note, despite the outcome of last night, because of our wins at 165 and 174 it is very possible that we'll go up and UNI will go down in the tournament strength rankings.

I thought the dual would be 5-5 and we needed bonus out of Weatherman and Gadson to have a chance. Goettl was the 5th win that we didn't get. Thought to win the dual we probably needed 6 wins to offset UNI bonus points. Didn't expect Hall to get majored.

My main concern is I only see 3 guys with auto berth right now. I thought Goettl, Hall and Nicholson would end up earning 1, but 2 lost at ASU and 2 to UNI so not sure. I am not comfortable with what our plan is a 184 either.

Also I will keep getting my season tickets and attending the duals.

Smith loses it 5-2. He had a couple really nice half shots and never committed. Cabeel only took two shots the whole match but he scored on both of them. Quean looking miles better but still doesn't trust his shot. I think if he powered through those he would have had multiple takedowns.
Iowa State 4 - 3 UNI

We needed a win at HWT or 125. Need Hall to go big here to get us back in it.

Just for reference, Blaize Cabell wrestled at 197 last year and was quickly pinned by Kyven in a total mismatch. Smith has a lot of miles to go.

While I can't really disagree with how JP probably ranks wrestling, it is well known that he wants to do well in the directors cup and cc/t&f is a way to get more bang for your buck in that regard.

Women's gymnastics used to be good as well, but that coach left and they are not back to same level either.

I dunno, Luther. Judoka fits that bill. He tries to make everyone believe things are just fine and our expectations should be to just have 1-2 AAs.

I don't think the angst about UNI is strictly about the dual loss. What's troubling is they are a smaller school with fewer resources, a more downtrodden program than ours with a coach on the job one less season yet they have improved by leaps and bounds yet we seem stuck to a certain degree. Their arrow is most decidedly pointed up and that is not to the benefit of our program. They aren't going anywhere--both teams return 9 points from last night but UNI adds a round of 12 wrestler from last season to their lineup. Schwab has a lot of true development taking place in that room. It is tough to swallow.

This is is the most honest/correct thought from an ISU fan I have seen put down. That is exactly what I have been saying for 2 years. UNI is out coaching ISU and it shows on the mat. ISU needs help.

Wrestling budgets at the three regent schools for last year. ISU separated out scholarships which is part of why they are smaller. But that doesn't account for a +$300k difference.

Iowa State: $215,480
UNI: $523,409
Iowa: $1,126,937

UNI spends more on wrestling than Iowa State does. Sorry the facts, as usual, don't fit your narrative.

Oh snaps!! I actually didn't think we were less than half of UNI thought we were closer to being more even.
