Nebraska's match record is 23-0 (15-0 conference) now, and they have a game record of 69-6. #9 (at the time) Texas is the only team to win two games in the same match against them.

To say NU is a hell of a program, is understating it just a bit.

My sister played with CJ at NU and won a national championship there. It's maybe not the Duke or USC of volleyball. But it's right there. They're home schedule was sold out before the start of the season. That should say something about the state of their program. And if you've never been to the colliseum, it's quite the experience.

And as somebody who's played competitive volleyball for 15 years I can say without hesitation, to even take a game off a team the caliber of NU is an exceptional accomplishment.

Program is definitely on the upswing. Christy will do great things here.

Attendance numbers were pretty good...they girls played really well, had some swings to win game three. We are getting there. The coaches are doing great hats off to Christy, Joe and Dawn.

The NU facility is much like the ISU Armory. An old building painted red. Is the Armory still there? Such a venue gets a lot more excitement from a crowd of 1-2000 which might get lost in the Hilton.

Yeah, ISU's Armory is still here, but it's no longer usable as an athletic facility. The main floor has been filled in for years with offices and studio space for the design program. The building also houses DPS and Parking, and all three ROTC programs. There's nowhere to play volleyball...

Is actually a lot more like what Iowa did with the old fieldhouse. And attendance is closer to 6 or 7 thousand. Very impressive environment. To go from that place, back to Forker (when I was in school) was quite the contrast.

I know CJ want to do about the same thing at ISU. The original talk was to renovate Forker. I think that probably got cut in lieu of the Hilton/JTS upgrades.

That did get put on hold, but JP's "Master Plan" has nothing to do with it.

The athletic department and Rec Services are in the middle of planning out some new rec/sports facilities on the west side of campus. Nothing has been decided or announced yet, but the course of action that it looks like they're going to take has them building a huge new rec center (similar to but a tad smaller than Lied) west of the suites in UDA. Less certain are Forker and State Gym's fates. There have been suggestions for each building that range from expanding, renovating, demolishing, and leaving alone. My guess is that State Gym gets renovated sometime down the road, and that Forker recieves some mid-level renovations sooner than that. Keep in mind that the volleyball team isn't going to be needing much west-side space since they'll be getting their new practice facilities south of Hilton.

I had to start reading this thread. I couldn't believe how many times it kept showing up. At least I now know that Nacho Libre plays for us. Probably plays tenacious d.

Thanks for the info.

I've oft thought that State would make a great facility for smaller venue sports ala volleyball, gymnastics - not sure if wrestling still draws enough to be in Hilton (??). Not to mention the history of that place is just too much to get rid of, if possible.

On the otherhand, I heard JP talking last year about moving the softball AND BASEBALL fields over to across Elwood from the stadium. Kind of a sports complex. I really like that and what you're speaking to seems to fit into that idea.

I saw on the "master plan" two sets - one with one building to the SE of Hilton, and another with a building to the SE and one to the SW. The SE one has offices for MBB, WBB, and VB and a practice court for each. That's all fine a good. Anybody know what the SW building would house? I'm a big advocate for practice where you play. Much prefer to have the basketball teams practice in Hilton and the the VB team whereever they play.

Just to clear up some things about the libero...

The libero is in essence a defensive specialist or a back row player only... she is the only player that can sub into the game "free of charge" (for lack of a better term.) She is not allowed to make any "attack" move like an overhand spike to try and pick up a kill. The libero typically leads their team in digs per game; she is the one who is charged with digging balls sent over by way of the spike.

Just a couple tidbits...

Unfotunately, State Gym isn't really outfitted for spectator sports anymore. There's no room for people to sit and watch.

Yeah, JP wants to create what he calls the "Gateway Sports Complex" on the northwest corner of Lincoln and Elwood (where the MWL IM fields are, sadly.) That will include softball and baseball diamonds. I'm not sure what else would be there. The soccer complex is already right behind that spot, so that's convenient. I do hope that they keep the intramural program in consideration though, because eliminating those fields (or even just moving them to the Southwest complex) would be a huge blow to the program.

It's possible that I'm misunderstanding this, but I think the additions/renovations to Hilton will come in stages. When all is said and done, there will be two symmetrical (and I assume mostly identical) additions on the SE and SW corners of Hilton. One (the SE one?) will house practice facilities and locker rooms, etc. for men's basketball, women's basketball, and volleyball. As I understand it, they will all have their own space, so everyone can practice at the same time if they want to. The other (SW) building will house all the offices for those three programs, as well as most of the other Athletic Department offices. JP has said all along that he wants the department to be concentrated in Hilton instead of in Jacobson, so a lot of stuff will be moving there in the future. As far as the two pictures on the Master Plan, they won't be building both additions to Hilton at the same time. Rather, they plan on building the SE addition first so that the teams can get their practice space as soon as possible. Following that, the SW expansion will go up. (Presumably under the reasoning, "all our offices fit into our current space right now, so we can last a few more years like this".)
