Maybe they should just find some small wild animals & carry them around in cages / on leashes. When a large group of walkers get too close release an animal for a distraction!

Of course then I suppose they'd have PETA all over their *****...

Believe it or not, you have to be good with a sword in order to use it effectively. Plus they arent just laying around.

Nonsense. I've never used a sword, but am sure that I would be near ninja level from all the action movies I've watched.

Seriously though, do you have to be very skilled to chop off a rotten head?

No and that's why it'd work. Sure if you're fighting other people with a sword you'd have to have some training but for just zombies, at least the dumb slow moving kind in this show, you don't need a ton of skill.

What you would need is stamina though as swinging a sword may look easy, it would wear you out after a while. But one would think that you'd have ample time to workout in a zombie apocalypse.

Remember folks, Rule #1 to surviving a zombie apocalypse is cardio.

You need to have the strength and stamina to put one through. Hence knowing how to use one. The skull is pretty thick. You would have to keep it sharp and have to have the force necessary to do the death blow. As for the rotted head,....hard to say. I suppose if it was enough mush and your sword was sharp, then yeah, you could probably get it to work for you.

Exactly this. A trip to a library and one samurai sword training book later you pretty much would have an outline on how to effectively defend yourself against zombies. Samurai's no, but that is not your concern. It would probably outline training as well.

They had a ton of trees on that farm that could have been used to build a roman or western style Fort. Also, does Herschel not have a chainsaw? They could have done this rapidly. Steal a backhoe and you have yourselves a moat. Doesn't mean it has to work perfectly and no one ever gets hurt, but sitting around doing nothing is boring to watch.

Maybe you should start visiting more renaissance fairs than.

Probably not, but you'd need some skill in order to not damage or break the sword in the process and/or accidentally cut off your own limbs. Plus as someone said, swords aren't just laying around, especially high quality swords that can withstand a lot of cutting.

What was that? Sorry, I had to stop reading for a minute, I tripped over a leftover sword in the hallway. Damn things are everywhere.

Hence a great story line that is more interesting than people arguing over ethics or kids running away. They would be researching and finding the best weapons, swords, maces, who knows but it would be fun watching them try different things. Really, they need someone training as a blacksmith.

People survived in the stone age in Africa among large predators and thrived. They could easily learn the methods and technologies of the stone and iron ages by trial and error or research. Then modify them to dominate the zombies.

I just think it would be more interesting if the survivors were less passive. Maybe that is a completely different type of story though.

I'm trying to copyright "Kitten Bombs" © at the moment. I think sticks of dynamite duct taped to the little guys would be highly effective.

I've also been shopping for swords lately.

They need to get themselves a couple of these bad boys

I think people could find a way to hurt themselves more with a flail. I think a mace or an axe would be the way to go. Plus axes have a lot of practical use too.

Also, would people be smart enough to take all the swords at scheels or would they be trying to take as much guns and ammo as possible?

Guns and ammo with a couple survival knives/machetes. You an always make more sharp objects from found metals. People like the guns because you dont have to get as close to the target. Problem is once youre out, you better have a machete handy.

My idea would be a huge fire pit. Set up some sort of fencing as a funnel with blood trail and bait leading up to the edge of a huge fire pit. They would simply fall in in and be incinerated. You would have to make it one heck of a big, hot fire though.

Good idea. I think a shooting range with a revolving door that let's one zombie in every 5 seconds would be effective too. You could have a pit dug in front of the window so they couldn't get to you. Then I though why not just have that pit emptied by and elevator that just feeds the zombies into a fire or wood chipper.

I'm mad Rick hasn't thought of this yet.

I was lol at how everybody in the group was suddenly a sharp shooter who could drop head shots left and right from moving vehicles!
Totally agree. The lack of any realism there really detracted from the show.

The writers of this show are really having trouble staying consistent with their characters' actions.
I tend to agree with this as well. It doesn't seem as though the acting meshes well with the long-term story line.

With regard to the weapons debate, I would gladly take a short pole axe with a spike on the end over a sword any day. A sword doesn't have enough weight to slice effectively, and a pole axe is probably a more effective stabbing weapon.

My beef with an axe would be if there are a couple zombies and you got it stuck in the head of the first one, the other one would be all over you. If the blade has some stick preventing contour to it, it might be ok though.

If you're just going to use the pointy end to stab zombie heads, a roman style spear might be more effective and easier to manufacture.
