I thought the whole episode last night was pretty lazy. Probably my least favorite so far.

Killing off Daryl would be pretty close to a deal breaker for me. And considering his popularity with the fans (especially when compared with the "leads")...it would likely be a death sentence for the show.

This is what kills cool shows and also what drags them out for too long. The star of this show is the zombie apocalypse, not Daryl Dixon. One of the reasons the first season of TWD was so good was that since it was a mini-series you had a sense that every single character could die...except Rick since it followed his experience with it.

Daryl's probably my favorite character too which is why I hope they kill him off. That takes balls and a devotion to the story.

I'd love to see this show go straight Red Wedding.

One of my problems with the show now, honestly. It has begun to feel like all the major characters are safe, the only ones killed are total redshirts (woodbury citizens for example) or slightly developed characters, axed immediately after becoming interesting, in an obvious ploy to make us care more about them dying than your average redshirt (axel).

The bigger problem is the show has failed until recently at developing characters for the long run as opposed to just developing them enough to make them kill-targets. You have to have those types of characters ready to fill the roles of far as 'characters we care about' if you're going to kill off other major characters, or else people will check out of the series. This is where the development of characters like Beth comes in.

As far as Daryl goes, that line about him being the last one standing also stood out for me. Ive got good odds that Daryl is going to go out saving Beth now.... this would also offer opportunities to take Beth even farther.

Herschel was a main character. Its only been 3 episodes since he died. I would say they gave him time to develop.

I wouldnt say he was one of the 'core'. Rick, Carl, Maggie, Glenn, and Daryl all have felt invincible.

Hershel never felt safe because, well, he was originally going to die at the end of season 2.

After seeing that comment about letting Beth's character develop at the expense of Daryl, and reflecting on all of the "hot" comments about Maggie, Tara, and Abraham's female compatriot...and to a lesser extent Beth...

Honest question here: How much of the current "don't care much about Daryl...maybe Beth will develop" type comments are gender-influenced?

I like Daryl because he disproves his background every time he steps up, he doesn't whine, he acts in the interests of the group and not necessarily in the interests of a select few. Also, there's a little bit of that sly bad-boy aura about him. And because CROSSBOW. I liked the man Hershel became...not so much my first impressions of him. Hiding only works for so long, whether it's hiding on the farm or in a bottle. I came to respect him, and was sorry to see him go. He provided the thinking balance to the emotional and physical reactions.

Regarding the women - my order of preference would be Carol, Maggie, Michonne, then it falls waaaay off to Andrea, Lori and Beth. Jury (in my mind) is still out on Tara & new woman. In a zombie apocolypse, do you want a hot (but useless) woman next to you who requires protection 24/7 and/or follows her sex drive wherever it might lead, or do you want a woman who has your back?

I think in cases like this, it may be to my advantage to not be familiar with the story line in the comics, because I can look at the characters as they are, not necessarily the way I expected them to be from the comics. I have been disappointed often by someone else's on-screen interpretation of a book I've read.

Daryl is 100% the best survivor which is why I would hate to see him go.

As for the females, I have to admit that Maggie tops my list for mostly aesthetic reasons, though she does kick a good amount of ***.

Michonne is definitely second on my list of females, then Carol. Beth is working her way up the list as well. A little more training by Daryl and she'll be a bad ***.

I personally don't care for Carol. I think she's a bit of a sociopath and that's not someone I'd want on my side. If I were going to rank the female characters I'd go with

7. Lori

Am I forgetting any? I don't count the new ones because I just don't know enough about them yet.

Carol IS a bit out there. I choose her over Maggie & Michonne (both of whom could probably best Carol in a fight) because Carol is cold and analytical and practical, and rarely lets her emotions sway her judgment.

I ranked them based on if I only had one, who would I most want at my side.

If I were to choose men (and I'm sure I'll leave out some, so I'll try to stick with ones that have been with us for a while) I'd probably to:

3. Hershal
4. Dale
5. Shane
6. Glenn
7. T-Dog
8. Carl
9. Merle
10. The Gov.

If you can erase the Lori drama from Shane, I'd move him up to 2 and bump everyone else a spot.

I actually thought her relationship with the Governor was completely understandable, up until about the point where it became clear he was a psycho. I didn't blame her for it as she didn't have our full knowledge, not to mention the circumstances she was in.

Obviously it's an extreme but is it any differen than women that stay in abusive relationships? Everyone else doesn't get it, but for some reason there's something in that woman's head that tells her it's alright, whether it be love, doesn't think she can do better or because she thinks she can change them? How different is it really?

The Lori drama? Do you forget the whole Otis episode? If we're talking about this list with knowing everything we know, then that knocks him down with Merle and The Governor.

This is where I'd catch flak. I actually see myself a lot like Shane. Very black and white. I don't really blame Shane for that. Otis was as good as dead there. At that point the biggest priority was getting the medicine back.

Then when she left he really went of the deep end and became a one-note evil villain... I hated his character after he stalked her and caught her when he escaped, all the way up until he went off on his own and met that family, he became an interesting character again. Then died.

Meh. I didn't trust the Gov from the git-go, and didn't find it believable when he "changed his ways". Interesting? Maybe. But if I'm going to love to hate a character, I prefer someone like Merle, who was pretty up-front with his badness.
