Their back up is ok, just not the same physical presence.

They could be really solid next year if they can find a replacement for Bodie. Basically everyone else back plus they have a former 4 star ,Chico Johnson redshirting due to a knee injury in HS.
Drake was running their entire (effective) offense thru Brodie.

Was watching the game with my daughter (in her low 20's - just graduated from ISU). She is a very casual BB fan but gets more locked in during tournament (brackets, you know). Started watching WSU-Drake after our game and she made the comment "why do these teams look so much worse than we do". The eye test at work...
I had the same thought watching it, as well as watching SAM/KU. Both were pretty bad quality ball games I thought. Maybe I'm spoiled at this point.

Its crazy how remote and isolated it is. Amazing beautiful area, but its really not near anything and it’s not like the Midwest with fast easy straight line highways to lots of cities. Definitely the most remote power conference town.
Their location is why both WSU and OSU were wanted by no one during the break up of P12, think of an Ames, 300 miles from anywhere of any size, that is both of these schools.

After watching WSU and Drake I was not really impressed with either one of them, WSU size will not bother ISU nearly as much as our defense will pick them apart, and if they go into this game thinking we are 3 point shooting team, they are going to get slammed out of the gym by Ward and Jones. WSU will not have the energy that Drake would have had playing us. We should cruise to an easier victory here than we did in our first game. The real challenge will be next weekend.

dont want to turn this into a drake/devries thread but idk if devries will be back which means hes gonna take guys with him
I think he will come back. The league already knows about Tucker, so like AJ Green he can get there from Drake. Plus it screws with his kid's legacy. Waiting one more year especially one like the year they could have doesn't hurt Darren's future. But the two of them finishing out Tucker's carrer there makes them both Drake royalty as opposed to a rental at a rebuild high major.

Robert Jones, Hassan Ward, Tre King, D Wat, Mom, are small? Geezus how tall is WSU?
Per the chart in post #30, WSU is the 2nd tallest team, ISU is 100th tallest team in D-1. As others have said, their reserve height may not be terribly effective.

What a weird collection of people, from their coach to their players to their fans (in a strictly basketball context, I'm sure their fans are better with football). It took a dream storybook darkhorse season that caught a lot of well-deserved attention... just to get a 7 seed. I don't think they really understand this whole basketball thing. They love their school though, and more power to them. But they are clearly out of their depth here.

They are certainly on the bigger side, but they are not huge. They don't move the ball well, and they are not dynamic or explosive in any way. Any strengths they do have are easily matched or exceeded by Iowa State, and it plays right into our hands. They are don't really possess any strengths in areas that ISU has struggled with.

They are slow, low-skill, and under-whelming athletically. They give good effort and are stout showing some legitimate toughness, but they are a team consistenting of disregarded try-hard rejects with limited individual abilities and recruiting profiles, at a school with little to no basketball pedigree.

I could not be more relieved, pleased, and confident playing any other 7 or 10 line opponent, not just in this field but any field in recent memory. This is a bigger gift draw to get to the Sweet 16 than getting Arkansas Little Rock.

Everyone keeps talking about this “Jones” on WSU but I watched the whole game last night and no one stood out on that team to me. Like an amorphous blob of guys running around a lot, kind of being uncoordinated and then throwing up junk hoping to get a bounce. Seemed like the score of that game was in the 50’s for the last 13 minutes.
How did you miss Jones? he was their only player who played with energy and effort the last 10 minutes, he basically dominated the game (while missing a bunch of bunnies)

Rice and Wells are really good too - but they are both quite... passive - not really forcing the issue. Or at least were in that game. I watched the end of the game where they beat Arizona on the road, and Wells was great in that game.

I find this hilarious. "Iowa St fans are not too Happy as u can see them on TV leaving with their heads hung low knowing that their days are now numbered!!!"
That poster is so unhinged. He's responsible for 26 of the 34 posts in that thread and 23 of the 25 on the first page. It looks like he himself has over half the posts on their forum over the last 2 days. Just some poor Cougar yelling nonsense into the abyss.
