They are certainly on the bigger side, but they are not huge. They don't move the ball well, and they are not dynamic or explosive in any way. Any strengths they do have are easily matched or exceeded by Iowa State, and it plays right into our hands. They are don't really possess any strengths in areas that ISU has struggled with.

They are slow, low-skill, and under-whelming athletically. They give good effort and are stout showing some legitimate toughness, but they are a team consistenting of disregarded try-hard rejects with limited individual abilities and recruiting profiles, at a school with little to no basketball pedigree.

I could not be more relieved, pleased, and confident playing any other 7 or 10 line opponent, not just in this field but any field in recent memory. This is a bigger gift draw to get to the Sweet than getting Arkansas Little Rock.
They are really an interesting team in background - they aren't your usual collection of mid-major transfers.

Myles Rice, their PG and best player, is a 3rd year Freshman after he redshirted and then missed last year with cancer.
Jaylen Wells is a lower level transfer, having played 2 years at Sonoma State
Isaac Jones is a lower level transfer, having played 3 years at Wenatchee Valley College, then 1 year at Idaho
Jakimovski is a 4 year player at Wazzu, but is from North Macedonia
Cluff is Australian, and played 2 years at lower level Cochise College
Houinsou is a sophomore from Paris, France
Chinyelu is a freshman from Nigeria who played HS ball in Senegal

Freshman Isaiah Watts is really the only "typical" player, as he's a recruit from Seattle.

But given that, they aren't the typical level of physical as your "collection of misfit transfers" tends to be.

I’m convinced it is almost next to impossible to game plan against Iowa State defense in one day. Washington state turns the ball over more than it gets turnovers and sits at 207th in the nation for turnover margin. Iowa state sits at 2.

I think if we limit their rebounding we should walk away with a win. I felt like Drake blew the game more than WSU won it last night.
Chris Williams tweeted about their free throws last night. They lost the game right there.

I find this hilarious. "Iowa St fans are not too Happy as u can see them on TV leaving with their heads hung low knowing that their days are now numbered!!!"
Man and I thought Iowa was a boring place to live. This guy lives in fantasy land to disassociate his misery.

Everyone keeps talking about this “Jones” on WSU but I watched the whole game last night and no one stood out on that team to me. Like an amorphous blob of guys running around a lot, kind of being uncoordinated and then throwing up junk hoping to get a bounce. Seemed like the score of that game was in the 50’s for the last 13 minutes.
Jones was really good. But he was really good in a situation that is going to be tough to come by against ISU.

They'd get him the ball and he'd back it down for like 8 seconds and then make a move. When the quick double came he was still forcing up shots and making a good amount. But a Drake double team is not exactly like an ISU double team.

I'm not saying he won't still be good, but where he had a ton of success last night isn't probably happening against ISU, if nothing else he isn't going to get a ton of 1 on 1 ones with lots of space and shot clock to eat up with dribbles.

That poster is so unhinged. He's responsible for 26 of the 34 posts in that thread and 23 of the 25 on the first page. It looks like he himself has over half the posts on their forum over the last 2 days. Just some poor Cougar yelling nonsense into the abyss.
Gotta feel bad for them having been abandoned by their conference. But it's hilarious to see how little they understand about what's about to confront them.

Is heroin legal now in Washington?
It actually is, in small amounts. Its been decriminalized. However Seattle is a world apart from Pullman WA. Eastern Washington is very rural and known for being an educational school, among other things. Lot of good people go there, and are alumni. I feel sorry for them in the entire Pac12 break up....very similar to Oregon State. Great fan base, but not sure they get up for basketball like midwesterners.

Yes, WSU did not look very impressive in their win over Drake. I had picked Drake to win this game.

I think ISU gives them fits with the defense all night, and they are not at all ready for what they are about to experience. Cyclones by 10.

I think Rice is a good player, but man Drake was absolutely sagging off him and daring him to shoot or even drive. He was really passive last night.

Wells was decent. Jones played great.

Their backup big was terrible. I think that was Chinyelu.

To your point about the double team, Jones also has more turnovers than assists.... FOR THE SEASON.

If Drake was seriously the strongest defensive team they've played........

Wazzu seems like a decent match-up for us. That original poster on the Wazzu board is not really dealing in reality. Maybe he's a 14 year old kid?

My biggest concern is the refs calling lots of fouls against us and calling a very tight game. Hope they allow it to be physical with a good deal of bodying.

We really haven't had a large foul discrepancy against us in quite awhile. Their size plays in our favor as more contact is usually allowed with big bodies.

I live in Wenatchee. Lots of WSU fans here...and I've never met one who wasn't just as friendly as can be. Our oldest son went to WSU and never attended a basketball game. Football is it for them. I have seen no signs of interest in WSU basketball around town this season, or even in the past week.

Yep. I do feel for Drake, and I actually wouldn't have minded playing them tomorrow, and I know that puts me in the minority.

But, they did kind of blow that game last night. Make the free throws! Get the ball to your best player in crunch time! They did neither.

And I do think Devries is a solid coach, but this is the second year in a row that Drake has lost a lead in a late-game situation in the first round. They had Miami on the ropes last year and let that get away from them as well.
