Just thought I'd let you know, I got Thursday and Friday off from Grad school as well. I love being in Oklahoma, the land where they don't believe in snow plows.

FDWxMan- nice job on pretty much nailing the totals for Des Moines, lots of 6-8 inch amounts I see measured around the metro.

For the longer range I think you here are heaping a bit too much praise though, in the short term he did a significantly better job than me. Longer range, I think I did a better job emphasizing there would be a decent storm for central Iowa.

Surely you couldn't possibly be accusing a TV meteorologist of not hyping a storm early enough? Don't I have to protect the ratings and all that jazz??:jimlad:

Seriously though, you did come with a very aggressive forecast, especially early and stuck with it, got the alarm raised early. Definitely deserves some props.

Friday last week, I was still anticipating the storm staying SE with the high digging in from Canada farther to the east than it did, adjusting later over the weekend toward your solution. Well done on your part.
If not for Monday coming in a bit low, you would have be right about on.

I got to thinking and find it kind of funny that this thread is still nowhere near as long as the thread the night money was supposed to commit.

About Monday, I haven't looked all that hard, why were the WAA snows so weak here?

To be honest I know a lot of weather fanatics are talking about this being the most impressive snowstorm storm since 1999 for the Midwest but personally, I think the Christmas 2009 storm was more impressive, just hit hardest in areas that have significantly less population(MO River valley vs Miss Valley and east).

I went to their site a couple hours ago and it looks like about 2/3s of the flights are up and running. But I also hear that Texas is under rolling blackouts due to the ice and cold.

Yep, water pipes at two coal power plants froze causing them to shut down and one natural gas power plant had low gas pressure due to demand on the pipeline causing low energy output. Awesome.

Here are a couple of pictures of the wind at the Lakeshore taking the surface off the tennis court by my apartment building. Supposedly 70+mph and the way the building was creaking all last night I'd believe it.

Man. This storm hates tennis.
