Lots of snow coming down on the Western edge of Clive. Wife left work early and said the drive was slow coming home. She was happy that there were no jackwads driving, everybody was respecting the weather.

Looks like Ames revised lower on WHO to around 1.5 inches and nothing on Saturday.

If you read the national weather service 'forecast discussion' on the NOAA website, this lines up with what they were seeing with their latest forecast. They think the Saturday snow is going to stay more east of Des Moines now. They've left up their forecast for 1-3 inches for tomorrow afternoon for now since they said this storm has had a lot of changes, but the midnight forecast might update.

As an aside, if you aren't getting your weather from NOAA you are probably doing it wrong. Especially their discussion area which is super interesting.

Disappointing. Because of the MBB forum I was pulling for at least 24" of snow that might knockout internet access in the entire State. And than some earthquakes. Yeah, earthquakes would be a good finishing touch. o_O

Couple inches of snow on top of some ice on the north side of CR. Only supposed to get another inch or so today as it has shifted back east. Somewhat disappointed but oh well.

So the NWS was only off by about 6 inches for the CR area. Yikes. This thing must have made a pretty drastic last minute shift east quite a ways.

Not even enough snow at my house for me to plow the driveway (well the wind did help blow most of it away).

We manly got rain, freezing rain and ice, down here along the Missouri border. Maybe a tenth of an inch of snow on top of that.

How do you go from on Wed 4 inches, Thurs. 8+, Friday morning 9 or more, to it being all rain, and little snow? Guess the front moved, the temp stayed a little higher than expected and now we have an icy mess.

One of the biggest lessons most freshman learn their first winter at college. Only underclassmen wander central campus without a coat and hat/hood when it gets cold.

I remember freshmen year trying to look good/wear nice clothes all the time. By senior year, I was in sweats 24/7. Not giving AF is a nice skill to learn.

Small changes in track can make a huge difference. You are also trying to figure out where the transition will be and what the temps are through the entire column of air. At least in the CR area the NWS was thinking 6-8" and KCRG stuck with 3-6" as they were afraid of that freezing rain not switching early enough. They ended up being right as it didn't switch to snow until late in the evening and we only got 2 inches of snow with maybe another inch coming later today.
