They Came Together is on Netflix - very, very similar to WHAS. Same cast by and large, David Wain movie.
I started that movie on Netflix one day for some reason and I ended up watching it all and loving it, very quirky and unique.

I sorta hate rom-coms, and it definitely does it David Wain-style. Very funny and odd.

I came away thinking it was just a really fun movie. The kind of you want to watch when life is hectic. Quirky, charming, and good satire (my wife worked at a camp out East and said there was a lot of hidden humor if you're a former counselor).

I read that when they filmed the movie, it was 40-50 degrees and the actors froze most of the time. Also, Bradley Cooper missed his graduation to be in the film.

Most underrated movie ever. Can't wait for it. Love how they are keeping the cast and setting it even 10 years earlier...just because.

This is what I love most about it. That is the exact thing I would have done if I was calling the shots, just because it's so out there.

I was a counselor for a summer. I had some real ******* kids in my cabins. My night out for the week was a blessing. However, I had my golden birthday that summer 21 on the 21st. Could not party like it was 1999 and come back to a cabin of **** heads. Was bummed. Good summer though.

I've watched the first three episodes so far. Not bad, but as with all sequels the original was better.

a more full context of that sunglasses scene is needed:

And like, half the cast (obviously an exaggeration) of Mad Men is in this? Just through the first episode and there's already two and I know Jon Hamm is in later from ads I saw. What's the connection there?

It got better after the first 2 or 3 episodes. I belly laughed quite a few times at some of the ridiculous stuff. But it is no where near as good as the movie.

revival theater near me played the original movie this weekend at midnight, I almost checked it out but there was a big line 30 minutes before so figured it was sold out or packed.

Binge watched all 8 episodes over the course of the weekend. Didn't see the movie, but I will have to see it now.

Overall I would give it a B, maybe B-. That said, I did laugh out loud on average of 2 times an episode.

You'll have to watch the movie then go back and watch this again. EVERYTHING they did led up to why or what was happening in the movie, and a huge majority of the jokes were tied in to the jokes from the movie.

Also on Netflix, for those into this sort of thing, is an hour long "Hurricane of Fun: The Making of Wet Hot" which I found really interesting.

Watched the first two episodes.

Waiting for it to perk up, but scenes like Coop chasing the kid around to give him advice shows there's still some good stuff left in the tank.

I was kind of hoping (and wouldn't be surprised) that every episode ended the exact same way as the first, with no explanation whatsoever.

Just finished the series: I thoroughly enjoyed it and am bummed it went by so quickly.

Few takes:

1. I would definitely recommend watching the movie first as there are so many little things in the series that make you chuckle or say "ah hah" to yourself. For example when Gene is in the middle of a fight and stops to hump the fridge quick. Also, you quickly notice so many extra/different things about camp so you can't help but anticipate how they get things set back to the beginning of the movie.

2. I love how items in the movie which needed no explanation or a second thought become a big deal with the plot in the series. You can tell the writers (I believe the guy that plays Coop wrote most of it) put a lot of effort into the plot even though the whole idea is quirky.

3. I'm just blown away almost all of the cast came back to do this. Shows how much they held the movie in high regard. They had to film it in Los Angeles to work around the actors' schedules now that they're much bigger names than they were 14 years ago.

4. Enjoyed the cameos of bigger named stars (won't spoil it if you haven't watched).

5. When Coop rehashes the day to Kevin in the last episode, pure gold.
