You don't remember mccarneys tenure very well then.
Holy ****! It's like they watched a completely different game.
I am pretty sure that they don't remember anything about it, just throwing **** at a wall, like a bunch of chimpanzees

You forgots how to EnglishMcCarney was good for ISU, but his coaching career had run its course. Pretty tough to go 1-7 in the Big 12 in his 12th season. We were also 9-23 in Big12 play during his final 4 years. Sure that included 2 bowl games, but after 12 years it was time for a change. Anyone at the KU game in 2006 can attest to that. The atmosphere at JT was pretty close to that today. A good percent left by half.
IMO Wally will retire after this season and Paul Rhoads will hire Paul Rhoads as ISU's next defensive coordinator. I think we having have upgraded the coaching staff with recent hires. We also has some really nice players. The problem is our O-line, D-line and LB's just don't play at the level needed to be competitive in the Big12.
Sadly, to me this has been looking like McCarney 2.0 for some time now, except it seems that there isn't going to be that one 9-win season...
Overly-emotional coach who can't translate that emotion into mental toughness on the field
Team constantly exhibits unsound fundamentals
Team constantly comes out not ready to play
Talent below the necessary level to compete in the Big 12
meh...9 win season where we only had to play two ranked teams all year and they both crushed us. Apples to oranges schedules then and now.
There's a big difference between our current schedule and the schedule of the past, but I can certainly understand the idea that they're similar without the 9 win season, just from the standpoint of disappointment. We've gotten worse under Rhoads, and when you lose by 20 to an FCS team, you forfeit the right to say "dang, our schedule this year was tough! That's why we didn't win!"9 win season where we only had to play two ranked teams all year and they both crushed us. Apples to oranges schedules then and now.
meh...
The schedule was easier, but doesn't change the fact that we are turrible.

The Big 12 north wasn't that terrible in the early 2000's. Our schedules in those years were not as easy as everyone makes them out to be.Did you watch the teams of the Big 12 north in the early 2000's when mac was here?
This eras North Dakota State would have been more than competitive in that division.

2000: We went 9-3, K-State and Nebraska were both top 10.
2001: Colorado and Nebraska were both top 10.
2002: We went 7-7, Colorado and K-State were both top 20 and we also played Texas, OU, and Florida State. 4 of those teams were in the top 7 in the AP Poll when we played them. Oh, and we beat Iowa on the road that year and they finished 8th.
2003: We were god-awful, but we played #23 Iowa, @#20 NIU, #1 OU, #12 Texas and @#14 Nebraska.
Look at '02 and '03. Those schedules were AT LEAST just as bad as this year's schedule. While we didn't have to play Texas and OU every year back then, we didn't get to play Baylor, A&M and OSU, who were all crummy.[/QUOTE
Lol, really?
That great 9-3 team lost to nebbie, k state, and a pretty average aggie team like we did today.
Look at the scores of the games in 2003, they were all like today, same for 2006.
I get where you're trying to reach here, but you are wrong. When the Iowa, Nebraska, K State, and Colorado all got bad, at the same time (which is crazy), Iowa State could compete when we played the bad South teams.
He always blamed Walden, the facilities, and the budget for why he could not move on from Iowa State, even though he tried. He left about as many true Big 12 football players as he inherited, maybe 5 more. That was 8 years ago. This was never a rebuild of a program, as much as it is building a program. The two years with Chizik just added to the fun, along with of course being demoted from the BCS.
But for perspective, without a doubt, the biggest *** whipping that I ever saw any Iowa State team take, regardless of sport, was that 77-14 game at Nebraska. Think it was bruiser mccarney's 3rd year. The 1-10 team that brought his sterling record to at the time a robust 6-27.
We get it. You haven't been paying an ounce of attention the last 2 years.Just because this was the first genius post that I came across, I will quote it. None of this is really aimed at you, kind of.
We got killed today, OU saw on the very first defensive play, and the very first offensive play that they were completely physically dominant. There is a reason that this team was an odds on pick to play in the national championship playoffs before big game Bob coached them to two losses.
This was a mccarney level beat down, and I was as disgusted as everyone else was watching the game. The stop on 4th down, after we scored, put momentum squarely on our side, and we ran 3 plays into the line. The fake punt was perfectly executed and the kid dropped the pass. It was an awful, truly truly awful performance, and I would hope that the players were embarrassed by what happened on the field.
But, and this is the funniest part, you agenda people look even more foolish today than ever, if that is even possible.
Imagine, an idiot Iowa State fan, who hate the coach, decide that the evidence is clear that CPR has lost the program because Iowa State took an analing from Oklahoma. I mean we have been so competitive in that series historically, right?
This isn't mac getting *** pounded by a 4 win Kansas team. This was the biggest laughingstock of a conference matchup in college football history.
Yet the people with shovels decide to pile on because we lost badly to Okla ******* homa. Are you kidding? We took a worse *** raping from them with a top 10 team, and the then heisman favorite.
I get that when you hate the coach, perspective goes out the window. But we have been playing Oklahoma nearly 100 times, and in that whole span of playing Boomer Sooner, we have not lost to them SEVEN of those times.
Good Lord folks, you want to complain about NDSU, there is validity to that. But the agenda folks, lose and any and all of the little bit of credibilty they may actually have complaining about this game.
Actually Klein was a Chizik recruit.I'm not sure how some people say that Rhoads has brought in more talent than McCarney did. The whole "the talent is way better now" idea is a myth. Look at who McCarney recruited and count how many of those guys ended up in the NFL. I could name a lot of players that he recruited who ended up in the NFL. Rosenfels, Wallace, Hobbs, etc... How many Rhoads recruits are currently in the NFL? Not very many. Klein and George are the only ones I can think of. Bibbs is the only NFL prospect on the team right now. Rhoads has yet to have any success with players that he actually recruited.

Its pretty clear by now that CPR is doing worse at recruiting than Dmac or Chiz did.
