If we had the talent to win 6 this year and bad coaching cost us, I think 6 wins is realistic next year. Next level and all that!

4-6, within parameters of the poll. And it needs to be on the high end of that range.

Sustaining progress is probably more important (and attainable) than a "Splash" first season — which, given ISU's historic context, would be 7-plus wins.

Development of a consistent strategy may not immediately produce a noticeable improvement in W-L. But if you're willing to make the coaching change, accepting a 4-8 record or worse seems like acceptance of mediocrity-culture.

Exception: If signs of positive development are undeniable and point to an upswing in '16 and beyond. But that's also vaguely forgiving — "It looks like we'll be better next season" has happened numerous times.

I think we get 5 games. Anything more than that and I'll be pleasantly surprised.

I'll take 5 wins. More importantly, a close game in 4 or 5 of the losses, too. As for the season after that, if all goes well, I could see the 6+ range becoming a viable option. I don't see a bowl game happening right away next season, but I'll gladly eat crow if it does.
