What if ISU is not in a real major conference?

How much will that affect ISU, State of Iowa and the city of Ames? I think the economic ramifications could be great to all parties.

We have the most loyal fans around. We are there through thick and thin, good and bad. We'll still donate and attend games because we love the Cyclones and love Iowa State. This is our turn to show the nation that we can compete and possibly work ourselves into a position to be attractive to expansion in the future. It's not all bad boys and girls. We have too many wowe is me folks for my liking.

Not in a BCS conference would be devasting across the board and those that would deny it have their head up their ***.

It would be the end of Iowa State and Ames as we know it. We may as well start our downhill decent into a UNIT/Cedar Falls kind of university and community...

If we aren't in a top conference, you'll see a lot of that drop off, big time..

Yeah, like the average person buying a house or car... I'm sure you have never taken out a loan, right???

Well the stability of my income, is a tad bit more stable than the guaranteed income from a conference that was one fit from Texas or Ok from going off the deep end....but for real, ISU better end up in a BCS conference....

And for the record I realize KSU or KU did the same thing....but still....Missouri took the right approach and waited for their capital campaign.

You mean, you would NEVER lose your job?? You would NEVER get into a life altering accident that would require HUGE hopsital bills?

And the second bolded part. GUARANTEED income.

Which part don't you understand?

I admit I used bad wording....but I assume the Big 12 TV contract is contingent on there still being a Big 12 conference?

And I'll admit it was the first I knew about it, I heard about the video board and stuff, but if you want to explain to me how it worked...I'm all ears...my knowledge is from one paragraph in an ESPN article....and we all know how good of a source ESPN can be....

Ill give you my story on why i came to Iowa state. After finishing one year of Junior college, i had no idea where I wanted to go to school. I was set on Northern Iowa until I made a Trip to a Notre dame football game. I thought how awesome would it be to wake up and enjoy a major college football game. I had no intentions of going to Iowa state before this weekend. I knew I did not want to go to Iowa because of size and Iowa city is a hole. Anyways I took a trip to visit ames on a football weekend. and I think they were playing Baylor. After that day i was hooked, it would be the best of both worlds a great established University and Major College Athletics. If Iowa state was not in the Big12 I would not have came here.

I understand that, I applied to one school (although I had grades and credentials to go to more) and that was Iowa....I was raised a Hawk, and if that wouldn't have worked out. I am not sure where I would have ended up. And it was driven because I grew up a Hawk fan, close to home, and great academics....but Iowa sports played a big role.

If we are no longer in a big-name athletic conference, enrollment at ISU will drop significantly.

I pry won't be having season tickets if were in the MAC or some little conference like that.

I would Expect Student Tickets to be significantly cheaper if not free. most schools in NON AQ's are free. but that will never happen

I think it would be bad for athletics, for the fans, for Ames, for the state of Iowa, even for the university as a whole - even academics.

From a personal standpoint, living here in Texas, I would probably have a heck of a time trying to follow Iowa State. I could very likely be reduced to only checking for final scores the Internet. At that point, I could easily find myself doing the unmentionable, switching to being a Hawkeye follower - seriously.

I will take this down to the scale of the average person.
You have been a very good business owner for about 8 years. The 9th year roles around and you just signed a HUGE contract with another company that will GUARANTEE you X amount of money over the next 10 or so years. All of the business owners, including yourself, got big time raises that were guaranteed in a contractual agreement.
You get happy and go out and buy a new car, because you've been driving around a POS car for 20 years. You also make a couple of household improvements that needed to be done. (new deck, new couch, and new flat screen tv) You do these things in the comfort knowing that your monthly paychecks will be X times bigger and guaranteed for the next 10 years.

Now, all of a sudden, the contract you just signed with that company is breached and that money is no longer guaranteed. You may even end up losing your entire job.

That is possibly happening to ISU on a much larger scale.
Why do you think Baylor, ISU and a couple other schools have not waived their rights to Sue A&M and the SEC? A lot of money was guaranteed and inked in writing, and now it might not be there.

I would get Iowa season tix and cheer against them every week in Kinnick. The arrogance of them finding this to be comedic has just pushed me over the edge.
