What if ISU is not in a real major conference?

Not to be an A-hole....because that is literally how it's going to sound....but our conference is most likely not going to be imploding within the next month....aka funds are not in danger of just vanishing....and it's being done in 2 or 3 phases. First phase is just indoor practice field.

A - you didn't answer the question. While I haven't done the research, I suspect thatw most D1 Athletic Departments have debt/investments they are carrying. Even Texas, if I remember correctly has many years of debt currently.

B - Up until 6 weeks ago, the Big XII was a stable conference.

Well the stability of my income, is a tad bit more stable than the guaranteed income from a conference that was one fit from Texas or Ok from going off the deep end....but for real, ISU better end up in a BCS conference....

And for the record I realize KSU or KU did the same thing....but still....Missouri took the right approach and waited for their capital campaign.

I have posted this same comment in another thread, but I will repeat here, you have fallen into the same trap as many others that read and quote this article that was poorly researched and did not quote anyone with any knowledge of the ISU AD finances.

Our revenues have grown from under $30 million JP's first year to over $46 million last year, without any of the new contract revenue. Most of the plans that require the bonds have been in the planning stages for years! The revenue used to justify and support the bonds is our recent growth and a new contract with Learfield for the Tier 3 rights and that will be over $50 million of revenue over the life of the bonds. I will be very surprised if you as a taxpayer will have to pay a dime on these bonds, we as supporters of ISU might pay higher tickets prices, but you as a taxpayer will not.

On the other hand, every ISU cable TV or Directv customer has to indirectly pay for the $90+ million of bonds that Iowa borrowed for the stadium renovations and all the other projects Iowa is borrowing money for these days. So if anyone has a right to ***** it is an ISU fan!

I don't care if ISU get thrown into the CIML come next fall. I'll be there supporting my Cyclones. I'm an Iowa State man. All this non-sense about losing fans is ********. If we win the fans will not only stay but the base will grow. Winning is more important than anything.

Woohoo! ISU goes 9-3 or 10-2 in a crappy conference and goes to some POS Bowl game. ISU will lose out on tons of recruits and almost all of the instate kids we have gotten would be going elsewhere to U of I if they were recruited.

There will be a huge drop off in # of fans going into the game also probably a drop off with the Gridiron club.

Don't get me wrong I'm a huge cyclone fan and have been going to the games cheering my *** off for the past 5 years but I will not be renewing season tickets if were in the MAC or C-USA. Just won't see me dropping money to see weak opponents after getting used to seeing Oklahoma, Nebraska, Texas and so on walk into JTS

You do realize these schools have only played in Ames three times since the B12 was formed (99, 03, 07)? I don't hardly call that "getting used to" walking into JTS. Granted, we have played OU many more times in JTS, but those were the days of the Big 8.

Thinking beyond ISU, how would these entities do without major college sports? I hate to be doom and gloom but the way things are right now some people can’t take much more. This is something that the people of IOWA should all fight for because it will affect you. Let’s face it ISU keeps a lot of people implode either directly or indirectly.

1. City of Ames (surrounding city’s)
2. Mary Greeley Medical center/ McFarland Clinic & all small rural clinics
3. Hotels
4. Restaurants
5. Grocery Stores
6. City of Des Moines (Metro)
7. State of Iowa
8. Jobs

I would get Iowa season tix and cheer against them every week in Kinnick. The arrogance of them finding this to be comedic has just pushed me over the edge.

Sounds like my high school years! Didn't buy season tickets, but I did go to many Iowa home games, paid my $2.00 to sit in the south end zone ("knothole" section) and watched 'em suffer through numerous lopsided poundings (I thnk the total was 21 consecutive losing seasons prior to Hayden Cry). Was good comedy relief.

I've lived in KC for going on 9 years now, and I've had FB season tickets every year since moving down here.

ISU being "left out" would probably save me that $, as it would likely mean more games scheduled on weeknights to get TV time. I can't justify the cost of paying for NCC donation plus tickets if I only get to use one or two a season because I can't leave work in the middle of the week to make a game.

How much will that affect ISU, State of Iowa and the city of Ames? I think the economic ramifications could be great to all parties.

Guys,

There are 36 million acrea of land in Iowa. if just HALF of that land is farmable (less roads, towns, forest) that leaves 18 million acrea.

If a surtax is added of $5 per acrea that adds to $90 mil annual.

It's about time the farm corporation started sharing the load.

I will take this down to the scale of the average person.
You have been a very good business owner for about 8 years. The 9th year roles around and you just signed a HUGE contract with another company that will GUARANTEE you X amount of money over the next 10 or so years. All of the business owners, including yourself, got big time raises that were guaranteed in a contractual agreement.
You get happy and go out and buy a new car, because you've been driving around a POS car for 20 years. You also make a couple of household improvements that needed to be done. (new deck, new couch, and new flat screen tv) You do these things in the comfort knowing that your monthly paychecks will be X times bigger and guaranteed for the next 10 years.

Now, all of a sudden, the contract you just signed with that company is breached and that money is no longer guaranteed. You may even end up losing your entire job.

That is possibly happening to ISU on a much larger scale.
Why do you think Baylor, ISU and a couple other schools have not waived their rights to Sue A&M and the SEC? A lot of money was guaranteed and inked in writing, and now it might not be there.

Excellent analogy.

With all due respect, you are a ****** *** fan. It seems to me that you aren't a Cyclone fan, you are a Big XII fan. I think you should change your username to reflect that.
