If you want great quality food for reasonable to low prices, its tough to beat The Cafe. I still cant believe how resonable the prices usually are for great quality food hard to find in Ames.

I'm not an old-timer - maybe a middle-timer? - but it feels like Ames is going through a transition and a lot of the "old guard" places will be disappearing. Based on the number of Facebook posts I've seen, Omaha is, on a longer timeline, going through something similar.

Anytime your population demographic is pushing 70% (college and city Schools like system) of the city being under the age of 25, there won't be a lot of fancy steak houses.
In my opinion thete could be a few more nice places and it wouldn't hurt to get a Pazzesco type place back that's for sure.

enchiladas especiales at O'Malley McGees is the best meal I've had in Ames. Miss that place.

Ames now has a Potbelly, which upped the restaurant game to the next level.

Just kidding, but it really is awesome that there is a Potbelly right by campus. Ames has a number of good places to eat, just not super high end stuff, which is for a limited audience anyway. There is fairly good ethnic food, which is a must for me.

I guess I need to up my food game.

I think Ames has good options, but then again I am perfectly happy with patty melt, french fries, and pint of beer.

OK, I lied. 5 pints of beer.

You think there is meat in a McRib?

Whatever it is, it's effective.

With the fried egg on top this was off the chain.

Pretty sure that's what I'd get. Were they blue layered tortillas?

Loved the bar area too. I always got a kick out of the Alcoholicos Anonymos framed print above the tappers.
