What's the problem with offense besides Tom Manning?

Fans supporting the Cyclones despite the losing is what brought us Campbell.

There's still a ton of support for Cyclone football.

It's not like CF was a pot of sunshine during the 2014/15 seasons.

I've only said this about 78 times but the slowing things down after there's a bit of pace/rhythm in these situations is bad too imo.

You get the defense on their heals a bit, you keep them there instead of giving them a chance to get settled back in.
kind of like CSP calling time out at home after a made basket, thus derailing the momentum and the home crowd.

Keeping pace up requires a base level of execution if plays don't get called in and understood quickly you can't really do this.

Tell me more about their down year. Then it's like a conversation or something. What happened for that down year, and what are the rest of Gundy's years like?

So far, what I've seen here is people mentioning that we have the same problems year after year. That actually is a serious problem, along with several that we've all noted for years.

Gundy's an interesting comparison here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Gundy

In 2018 and 2019, things didn't go so well so I think he changed their emphasis to be more on defense and rely less upon their QB which has had some success.

I also recall reading that he said that for most schools, you needed a Big 12 QB to have at least 20 games under they're belt to compete for a conference title.

Seven 10+ win seasons out of 17 seasons (seasons 6, 7, 9, 11, 12, 13, and 17).

Very insightful convo regarding offenses operating out of shotgun versus under center. Someone please DM this to Manning.

With ISU's personnel, things looking as similar as possible might be the most effective.

Pace might be the wrong word...thinking sense of urgency and rhythm.

The play seems to get in soon enough, there just seems to be a pause in that urgency that throws things off.

I would just like to see us "play to win". Play care free & push the ball down field. Go with some trick plays. Make it fun.

After some early interceptions by Dekkers we seem to be going with easy, short passes- WR screens, flairs to the RB's and crossing routes. Take some shots on early downs.

Hopefully going vertical more will open up the run game too.

Pace, urgency, rhythm.....and INSTINCTS. Our players should know damn well to get 1st down yardage on third down and they should know when to hurry up a play after a suspect call to our benefit (to avoid review) or when it is 4th down and a foot on the opponents 30.....they should freaking know that in a lot of circumstances you are going to sneak that 1st down. I feel our Non-Belicek coaches and players have had the instincts margin-ed out.
Seriously. Pass block stand up. Run block push forward.

So why aren't we allowed a down year like Oklahoma State?
We are, as long as it appears there was effort.

Curious, what did ISU do to adjust to Iowa's defense over the last year? Or to get other WR's involved besides X?

They had a year.

Are we ignoring the loss of RB1, and that RB2 in Ames, was a factor here. There is a clear drop off after Brock who is a complete back. It’s all interrelated, can’t run the ball and the safeties can help cover more and WR can’t get open. This is a young team that has to grow up and a coaching staff adjusting to the loss of talent and experience. The loss of Brock helped solid KU’s game plan and threw ours for a loop.
If our entire gameplan hinges on the availability of one player and it isn't the QB then our coaches are completely inept.

Curious, what is the NFL now? A running league, or a passing league?

So then why be a run heavy team when to go to the next level, it is all about passing?

It is as if they don't play football at all on PS5 or whatever.

CMC's teams have never shown to be instinctual or able to act capably in a hurry.

Were they inept when they won the Fiesta Bowl? Sounds like you want a coaching change.

Never said that. Again, go back and read his second sentence; that is what I was responding to.

Absence of scoring points is definitely problematic
Point insecurity is not fair. Universal Basic Points--or UBP-- would solve this. Hear me out! Every team would be given the same number of points to start the game....usually zero....and at the end of the game, if one team had more points, then we would add points to the lower scoring team so that both teams would have equity. The overtime rule would have to be changed to allow ties, but this would really result in a more just and peaceful world. No more riots or burning couches in burning dumpsters. No more fights or angry marching bands. Do the Math. I think the science behind this is solid and The Leadership can make it work.

The biggest issue is we’re not scoring enough points.
People are laughing at this like “obviously” bit really, had the kicker made 3-4 instead of 1-4 and we won 17-14 on Saturday there wouldn’t be all this consternation. We aren’t that far off from having a sufficient offense, we just need to figure something out near the goal line and obviously field goal kicking. Our defense is good enough that we don’t have to score 30+ to win. We do need to get more competent inside the opponent’s 20 yard line.
