When to cheer for the Hawkeyes?

Hawkeye and cheer are not in my wheelhouse. Unless, of course, if I am cheering for the team they are playing.
The only reason I'm replying right now is because it's already at the top of the page.

Did you cheer for ISU in 2002 when they were 6-1 and ranked #9? I'm pretty sure you loved the OU beatdown. It's easy to pull for your rival when they're sucking.
Growing up and living in eastern Iowa, I've endured more than my share of abuse from the mindless black and gold minions. I just can't cheer for STD U.

Admit it ...the only reason you were cheering for ISU on Saturday is because it would've eliminated Okie State from the title run and benefited the Hoks.
Never. Cheering for your rival is like showing compassion for someone trying to end your life. Destroy them.

Think hate for teams stems from childhood. Being from SW Iowa, I grew up supporting both Iowa/ISU because I had no real connections to either school and no family preference. My family did have a strong dislike for Nebraska and that seems to have carried into my adulthood. My spouse's family are die hard Huskers and as much as I try not to care about that team, there is a deep seeded pleasure every time they lose.
Even after attending and graduating from Iowa State, I really only root against the Hawks when they match up against the Clones. I do seem to know a lot of Iowa "fans" who have never been to Iowa City and wanted Ferentz fired long ago, which makes me laugh, but my gut always has me rooting for the team as long as they aren't up against the Clones.

The only time it is ok to cheer for Iowa is when you meet absolutely all of the following conditions:
1) You are a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan
2) You are so unbelievably drunk or high that you don't really know what's going on anyways
3) You are very distracted by something else that's going on, so you're really not that into the game.
If however, you do realize you accidentally cheered for the hawks for even a second, you would probably need to scrub your entire body with steel wool in order to feel clean again.
