Just booked a room in East Rutherford. Subway to the game.
This is the way to go. I would try to find a hotel in Jersey City, Secaucus East Rutherford and take the train/subway to the game. Probably your cheapest/bang for your buck alternative.

I don't know what the flight situation is for you guys, but don't think LaGuardia is the only option (Newark may be better).

Check this for those on a budget for a hotel: Hotels.com

Hope to see you all there!

Us as well. Looks like a 13 min cab ride to the stadium...

Yes staying in one of the boroughs isn't as pricey as staying in Manhattan, but don't take a cab. That 13 minute cab ride could turn into an hour with traffic and cost you well over $100 one way. Take the subway and it will cost you about $4 per person one way.

$2,000 are you serious? Just stupid...

I went with the Alumni association to the Insight bowl and it was expensive(I think around $1700) but I felt it was worth every penny. The resort was nice, chartered flight, bus picked us up from the plane, luggage was delievered to the room, ride to and from the pep rally, police escort to the game and an Insight Bowl long sleeve shirt plus other things I'm sure I am forgeting. If you have the money to spare and just want to sit back and let everything get taken care of for you it is the way to go. Sadly this year I will not be able to afford to go to the bowl game.

If the team is staying at the Sheraton they will enjoy it. Great location. About six blocks south of the park, six blocks north of Times Square, right near Broadway shows, all things a team of dudes in the 18-22 range would look for. ;)

Team is staying at Sheraton Towers in Manhattan..

If it is the one at 59th and 7th ave it is super nice and super expensive. We stayed there on vacation and for anyone that doesn't mind cost and is staying over for New Year's Eve this is the place as it is a short walk to Times Square and just around the corner from the Ed Sullivan theater where David Letterman is filmed. It is also close to the Rockefeller Center as well and NBC with the Today Show.

We paid about $300/night for the UConn trip. Not that bad considering location, etc. You are not going to get a $100 Super 8 in Manhattan. I looked and it was average of $442 for 12/28-12/31 (3 nights). That's pricey, but the location is prime.

Damn, they did jack up the prices for New Years Eve. Last summer we paid about $320 a night but like you said it was prime and worth it. I could have stayed outside the city for around $150 or so but by time I paid the transportation cost to get into the city every day for 5 days I probably would have spent the same amount since we basically walked everywhere by staying at the Sheraton Towers. We only jumped on the subway to go to the Battery Park Area and the Financial District and over to Yankee Stadium, otherwise we walked.

Go figure... 1 month to the day that I move to the twin cities from brooklyn and we go to the pinstripe bowl...

If you're on a budget for hotels, Look in Brooklyn, specifically around the Park Slope Area (3rd avenue between flatbush and 36th street). There's a bunch of chain hotels that were just built there that are pretty reasonable and in good shape. Plan on taking the subway to the game though as the cab will be $60 or so (not bad if divided up with others).

Rooms at Embassy Suites in Meadowlands are pretty reasonable. At least same price as Embassy anywhere else in America. Right up the NJ expressway from Newark airport, quick ride into Manhattan. Maybe there.

On another note, where should I fly into? Newark or LaGuardia. Only about a $10 difference. LaGuardia is closer to the stadium but Newark has much better flight times.

Nevermind. Pulled the trigger on LaGuardia.

Looking for advice of New Yorkers or those with knowledge....planning on going to the game and would like to stay thru New Years Eve. I am looking for a place to stay that will allow me to get to the game and in an area that will be fun for NYE. I am looking for "reasonable" places to stay. I have NO interest in Times Square for NYE.

Any help would be appreciated...

@isubucky72: Honestly, I'd aim to spend New Year's Eve with your crew in Eldridge. Sitting around some bar in New York on Dec. 31 isn't going to be any more special than sitting around a bar in Bettendorf.

The whole Times Square thing is a spectacle but it's also a charlie-foxtrot of the first order. If I could chose between Times Square and Welch Ave. Station for New Year's Eve 100 times, I would chose WAS every time.

Times Square on New Year's Eve is, bar none, the most overrated event in New York.

And if money is a factor, that hotel room on Dec. 31 is going to be significantly more expensive than the previous few nights.

I agree with flav here. Save the money you'd spend on a hotel on the 31st and see if you can fly back on that day. You should have plenty of time to make it back to IA along with a few hundred dollars in your pocket that you didn't blow on NYE in NY. Times Square is extremely overrated even on an average day. I cant even imagine how ridiculous it must be on NYE. Since you seem to not really care about Times Square, I don't think some random other place in the city is going to be all that much different than what you might do in Iowa. Unless of course you are looking to hit up a bunch of clubs which might be even more difficult than Times Square on NYE.

La Guardia is much closer, but it's the worst damn airport ever... I fly in and out of it every two weeks for work and hate it.

Hey everybody, I live a couple blocks from 36th Street in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. They've been building a ton of hotels right near me where I always see European tourists staying. Check out Sunset Park hotels, and you can take the D train all the way from 36th Street to Yankee Stadium, always nice not to transfer. $2.25 a trip no matter the distance! We've got great Mexican and Chinese food out here (authentic stuff) and a really nice new cafe that just opened up. A good way to go...

As for looking for places to hang out on NYE, the East Village is a good time all year round, and even more so on NYE...
