Re: Whether we like it or not, Rhoads will be back, so let's talk ourselves into 2015

This program cannot currently count on wins vs. teams "we should beat". I honestly don't understand the "favorable schedule" stuff. ISU snatches defeat from the jaws of victory like no other team in the nation and has been beaten by FCS teams the last two years.

How am I wrong? What am I missing? Why is the schedule favorable for this ISU staff in any way?

I'll hang up and listen.

I think you're right, but I get where the "favorable schedule" crowd is coming from. Confidence breeds success, and the only way to have confidence is by getting some wins. There is no doubt there are more chances for winning in the first half of the season.

So, best case scenario, they win a few of the early ones, the team starts getting some confidence, and maybe they steal a couple down the stretch.

The receivers can only cause problems next year if we figure out how to run the ball. If we can't force teams to commit 7+ to stopping the run the receivers will be just like this year...talented but not huge threats. On paper our receivers should be awesome but I'll believe it when I see it.

Lazard, Montgomery and Bundrage will cause problems next year if Sam can get the ball to them

I think this is predicated solely on our OL and our ability to run something other than a misdirection. We need a line that can block and provide a small hole for a BIG back to get through. I like Wimberly types but it's a matter of time before one of them gets obliterated and hurt for good.

Ok. I realize everyone is down on football but how would you set up our schedule to be better for ISU? Not have us in the Big 12? We are bad, but how does playing the worst teams on our schedule early not help this team?

The poster is right the schedule is favorable. He also asked for positive posts about the upcoming season so you should probably stay out of the conversation. I am as down as anyone, but continuing to moan about losing to everyone at this point changes nothing.

I think we need to give the team a little face lift to help the fans and players forget about the past couple years.

Step 1) Stadium Update - Check
Step 2) New D Coordinator - Hopefully young and aggressive
Step 3) Some new uniforms - Gets the players excited and helps not remind fans of past couple years.

That three step system helps change our identity a little bit, builds some hype, and sells tickets/merchandise. As for the actual on field product well who know, it can't be any worse....i hope.

Definitely need new uniforms, they are just a part of the losing tradition.

The schedule is pretty favorable. If we go 4-1 or 5-0 to start (I think we'll be 3-2, maybe 2-3) and hey, if you only need 2 wins in your last 7, that's encouraging.

Only 12 more games to endure before we get a new coach and start moving forward.

I'm just saying, look, Rhoads *is* coming back. As long as that's the case, we might as well find *something* to be excited about. Some reason to be optimistic.

2) The Extremely Favorable Schedule

UNI loses a ton off this year's team,.... Iowa loses a ton, too.....

And Toledo loses a ton as well-- their entire offensive line.

This is a good post by the OP. Its nice reading something positive for once. 15 is the year anything less than 6-6 is a failure and CPR is canned.

Please name me the last coach that Jamie Pollard hired at Ia State that Jamie Pollard has fired while at ISU.....

Pollard wouldn't even fire greg macDUD........

Maybe Jamie will get lucky and Nebraska will bail him out and Hire Our Resident Genius Football Coach

Re: Whether we like it or not, Rhoads will be back, so let's talk ourselves into 2015

I don't live in the world of rainbows and sunshine that you do but I do like the way the schedule sets up. Especially with the SEZ completion. Should have some competitive games early in the season in front of big crowds.

I hope we see improvement, and I think we will. Remember, we are a few plays away from having 4 wins right now.

I've been completely down in the dumps about football. I gave away my tickets to two games this year (OU and WVU) and begrudgingly showed up to the others. My level of apathy is at an all-time high. Sunshine and rainbows? Hardly.

But I've also come to terms with the fact that Rhoads will be our coach in 2015. So I can grouse about it, be upset about it, or I can find reasons for optimism. I've chosen to find optimism. Not that I live in a world of sunshine and rainbows -- I'm about as sick about ISU football as I have *ever* been -- but because being upset about it won't change 2015.

After the 2015 season, on the other hand, the vitriol and anger and frustration will be heard by Pollard loud and clear if it's yet another dumpster fire.

Do hit tapes come back?

Hit tapes are the direct correlation of our failures.

I agree we need new uniforms and a new helmet design to help shake our LOSING TRADITION

Greg McDermott was going to get one last year and get canned. What would have been McDermott's final year was well on its way to being a total disaster. Then Jamie could can Greg and not a soul would have been upset about it. Remember, hindsight is 20/20, but Hoiberg was a Hail Mary pass at the time.

Agree. Favorable schedule? Tell me...who should we beat next year? Besides UNI and Toledo! Why is our schedule favorable? It isn't like we are a powerhouse at home so that can't be the reason...

Favorable schedule, as in, we get easier teams first.

I didn't say we would beat anyone. But I think anyone can look at the schedule and see that UNI, Iowa, Toledo, Kansas, and Texas Tech are significantly easier than the seven teams that come later. We can evaluate the quality of a team without evaluating whether or not Iowa State can beat said team.

This team has forgotten how to win. Getting some opportunities for winnable games early on -- especially in a row -- is preferable to the alternative. That's favorable.

And yes, Iowa State hasn't been great at the *current* Jack Trice Stadium. JTS will be very different next year. It will be louder, hold more fans, have more "atmosphere" and the wind currents will be very different. Passing and kicking will be easier at New JTS. It's not entirely fair to compare our performance at Old JTS to New JTS. Different beast entirely.

I'm excited about only one bye week. Rhoads and Staff have been terrible coming off of Bye Weeks so having only one is fine with me. It's not like we've gotten "healthier" coming out of Bye Weeks either.

Can we stop with the expect to beat UNI stuff already? Mo Valley teams have been beating us for years because of this attitude.

UNI is the only game anyone needs to worry about next year. Lose that and you might as well forfeit the rest.

Two teams we beat with this year's team will get much worse, and regardless of our past performance against FCS schools, we should always expect to beat them.

Again, not predicting results, but saying the schedule is there.

Appreciate this post.

I think it's important to throw our support behind Rhoads and the student athletes.
