Getting in on this conversation late but finding it pretty entertaining. They do have have the 3 "forgivable" visitor policy. This is where you can get away with a few tickets if you are able to not register your car with the university. For instance if you get a parking permit from DPS that car will always be on file but if you move off campus and get another car, as long as you have never registered it with the university you can send the ticket back in up to 3 times. This usually covered if your family came to visit and unknowingly parked in a wrong spot but came in handy when I lived in Ames for a few months after graduation and had switched cars: Visitor Voids : Parking
The worst I had to deal with was when I worked for the Dept of Residence, didn't realize that there was a difference between student government and staff (staff being the full time employees not student staff.) Whoever put the 1st ticket on my car parked in the wrong zone shoved it under the hood where I could not see it when I walked by my car in the morning. By 5pm I noticed I had 2 tickets and wouldn't you know the first one was written first thing in the morning so the person who wrote it intentionally tucked it where I could not see it. Got that one appealed then they forgot to remove it so had to waste time again a month later when I got a 2nd notice on it to go back in and point out their mistake. They can be sneaky about citations and the goons that write the tickets think that they can put as many on your windshield in 1 day as they please but as long as you approach it the right way and point out they did not give you reasonable time to see you had a violation (such as your class schedule) you can usually get all but the original citation voided.
