Can you get upper level tickets and just plop into the parquet in Hilton because someone didn't show up to the game?

And they should charge a fee for the commuter lot...even if a permit was only $50/semester. They lose money like crazy on keeping the parking lots updated because the commuter lot brings in no revenue but gets a ton of traffic.

Here's the solution for everyone's parking mess: Either choose to live close to campus so you can walk, manage your time and use the commuter lot, or pay to park in the MU/at Gerdin/Lied/Armory/etc. There isn't a parking problem. There's a "lazy" problem. The price of tickets isn't a problem at all. Don't park illegally and you don't have to worry.

After the first half and the seat still hasn't been filled? You should definitely be able to sit in the lower tier. Makes the crowd look better on TV. But that is a policy issue. And the parking division's policies suck. They are designed to make money. Nothing more, nothing less. Just another outlet for the university to nickle and dime because $20k apparently isn't enough.

The policies are just fine. Students are flat out lazy and expect to have everything handed to them and expect the rules to change for no reason. The parking situation is perfectly fine. There is ample space for those who wish to park on campus. Some just decide they aren't willing to pay for it and expect Iowa State to cater a cheaper option (which exists....known as CyRide).

People who don't like the parking division are ones who want better parking options close to campus. I am one of these people. What is frustrating is is having a 50 minute class and having to worry about a 15 minute bus ride there and back. We want something where we can get some short term temporary parking that wont cost an arm and a leg.

Can't you schedule more than one class per day and just stay on campus in between? That's what I always did. I worked from 7 - 11, lunch (brought my own or ate dining service so I didn't have to pay at the MU or campustown), classes spread out from 11 - 5, study/nap/whatever in between, go home at 5. All with CyRide, no car necessary. Some semesters I had classes in the morning, or as bookends to my work schedule. I did work on campus, so that made it easier than trying to get out somewhere. But most places you'd work off campus likely have evening hours that wouldn't interfere with any daytime classes (retail, resteraunt, gas station, movie theater, etc).

I didn't like DPS because the people who worked in the office were incredibly rude to me. I went in to appeal a ticket that I had been given for parking in the visitor section at Freddy Court. I lived on Coconino at that time, but my bf lived at FC. So, naturally, I am a visitor to Freddy Court, right?

Apparently, WRONG. My brother and I had shared my car the year before - he lived at Friley and I lived at MWL, and he bought a permit for the lot off of Hayward. The next year, he and I both lived off campus and didn't but a permit. They saw the old, expired permit sticker in the window and decided that I was not a visitor to FC because I was an ISU student. WTF? How the heck is "visitor" defined? And, they ticketed my brother, even though the prior permit had expired. We could have sold the car for all they knew, but they instead sent him a ticket, even though I was appropriately parked.

When I asked the lady at DPS, very nicely I may add, where I should park at Freddy Court, she told me that there is a short-term parking lot across the street, but that cars can't stay there overnight. I explained that I didn't live at FC - it didn't matter. I'm a big advocate for taking the bus, but it was a long bus ride there, and I wanted to be able to stay the night there after drinking.

But, I did park illegally in the Armory on T/R mornings for a whole semester for two hours each time...and I only got one ticket for $15...maybe it was even $7.50. Know your lots. I also would park at Lied (I worked there) on occasion when it snowed. That was easy. If I deserved a ticket and received one, then I wasn't mad about it.

So you want ISU to provide parking that fits your drinking habits? That's really not their problem.

Iowa State students aren't visitors to Freddy Court. Whoever let you park there should've told you that since they specifically tell you that when you get the permit.

And they'd know if you sold the car because they can run the plate through their database. They do run plates of the vehicles in the visitor spots on campus so if the plate is in their system they know it belongs to a student.

This is why I'm a big fan of not reporting plates to the University. Gives you three "free" tickets which you can write "Visitor" on the back of and it's forgiven.

They are also building that parking ramp/transportation hub where lot 60 used to be... Not sure what the rates will be when it is finished, but I believe it is supposed to be a 400 car parking ramp.

Only time I was upset with a ticket was when I got a ticket over break parking at old state gym. But that was my fault. I thought it wasn't reserved over break. I was wrong. I think I just wrote that ticket off as a guest though. You get 3 free tickets if your car isn't registered with ISU.

Could always park in the commuter lot. Never once did I get a ticket while at ISU - then again I was smart enough to read the signs that told me not to and went else where.

Nope, the jackwagons gave me a ticket in the commuter lot for parking over the line with my truck....nevermind there was snow everywhere and you couldn't see the lines. DPS is ridiculous.

Me thinks this story doesn't pass the smell test.

Oh it did indeed happen, only time I've ever seen a ticket in the commuter lot. I was a bit over the line into one of the walkways I guess you would call it heading to hilton but come on.

I wouldn't doubt it. a roommate in Freddy last year got a ticket for barely having his tires on the grass know the back of the lot. then again he was an idiot so I didn't care.

That's what I was getting at, though...why the heck aren't ISU students "Visitors" to FC? I didn't live anywhere near there...hence, visitor! But it doesn't make sense that they gave my brother the ticket if they ran my plates, because the car was registered in my name.

No. I want to be afforded "visitor" status at a place that I don't live. And perhaps I didn't convey myself well in my first post - I got tickets elsewhere on campus that I paid willingly because I knew I was parked illegally. I just want them to honor the fact that I'm a visitor, because there policy doesn't make sense at all. Would it be better for me to drive myself home after drinking, even though I was a visitor?

(Also, I had no idea that that was the policy before I got a ticket there.)

Probably because FC is ISU property just like anything else. Same reason an ISU student isn't a "visitor" when they park on campus.

The policy is basically to keep Iowa State students from occupying the parking spots all the time. If Iowa State students can park there, people would park there and go to class and say they were visiting a friend in Freddy.

I didn't have a problem personally with DPS because I always paid when I parked. I have seen some grimey stuff from them as far as waiting 5-10 minutes for an individual meter to run out to give someone a ticket.
