Fact is, that's an expense that you take the risk of paying when you PARK ILLEGALLY.
Yep.

Its not like the state sets the parking rules you know. The parking rules are also part of the criticism of the DPS.
After 3pm a good chunk of the lots on campus should be fair game.
Faculty & staff (including grad students) who pay for their parking space shouldn't have it available until the end of the work day (commonly 5pm)?
Parking lots should sit empty so faculty can look out over their empty lot?
They pay for it.
I pay for my spot and am glad I can come and go as I please and be guaranteed a spot until 5pm.
And students pay far more to the university than faculty do.
Faculty bring in more money via grants than a larger number of students will ever pay in tuition and fees.
And they are paid for it.
And they pay for the privilege to park and come to work to subsidize education costs. No grants = higher tuition.

I'm doubting the parking is a significant factor in their decision to take a job with ISU.
Nope. But they still pay for it from 8am-5pm.

Especially not being able to lord over an empty lot.
During times where its actually needed, sure, but some common sense should be used.
And i'm saying what theyre paying for should be changed to say 8-3.
Email the new president. I am sure your concerns about an empty parking lot on campus will get his utmost attention. Hell take it to the BOR, and if that doesn't work either riot or organize a friendly protest on central campus.
Sure that makes great sense. Staff are not guaranteed their spot for the last 2 hours of their work day. I have to drive my personal car for meetings/research off-campus at times. Nothing better than to come back to finish your office work and not have a space.
