Robins, Iowa
Just curious who are the likely guys to be the plug in the 3 man front? I know Lee is coming back, and that Bankston left. So, besides Lee, who will likely be the DT/NG for ISU? I know Tucker Roberson was talked about some, but do not recall seeing himin a game. Joshua Bailey coming back? Kyle Krezek is a converted OL I think, with good size.

Good Question. Lee, and Robertson for sure. Josh Bailey has good reasons to return as he was finally starting to get a lot of playing time. Could use a grad transfer.

Singleton is a guy the coaches are high on. A rotation of him, Lee, and Josh Bailey (if he returns) is what I think we'll see.

I do not think Singleton played at all this year. I hope you are right. What happened to Robertson? As far as we know at this point we will have Lee and Robertson with game day experience.

Howard will need a year, coaching connection in KC says conditioning has been an issue for him.
Appreciate the info. No reason to doubt it, but there are some factors that should aid in his development. He is scheduled to be a mid-year enrollee so Andrews can get an extra winter workout season with him. He doesn't have to put on weight, just work on increasing strength and explosiveness. Will have a spring practice to begin working on technique and assignments. His conditioning won't take a hit from being a 2-way player at least early in his career although it will be fun to watch what might happen down the road.

Info I got was he didn't get many reps on D due to conditioning. School would be a 3A in Iowa so 2 way play is kinda expected out of your top players.

Guessing we targeted him as a DT from camp rather than film. I believe he could be really good, he just has a ways to go.

Singleton played in at least 4 games, all the blowouts. Kansas, W. Va. Kansas State and Texas Tech. He didn't have any stats that I could find. Johnny Wilson is also probably big enough now or will be by next fall to play on the interior in a relief role. He's listed at 272 right now.

What about the stud QB/DL recruit? Forgot his name sorry.

Howard. He was good size already, but mostly played QB in HS. Luckily he arrives early and will have extra time to work. Wouldn’t surprise me if he barely plays, also wouldn’t surprise me if he sneaks into the rotation on talent alone.

I also hope it doesn’t take long to make a “4th and 1” type package for him on offense. Use him like the Chiefs used Poe, or even how we used Lanning after he converted to All-American LB.

I remember Singleton and Robertson both rotating in when the game was still in doubt vs either K-state or West Virginia. One time Singleton had to sprint to the sideline before the snap and his speed was really surprising.

From a very small sample of a couple plays watching Singleton - don’t remember what game. He was quick coming off the line and got some penetration. Unfortunately, like many young guys, he took himself out of the play by taking the easy route by going around the block rather than fight through it. Can’t do that at NT, but that is correctable with coaching, practice, and film study.
