Let's not go there. How anyone can use the Peyton Manning situation as a guide is beyond me. Manning is a HOF old guy not a career backup cadaver. He also brought the best defense in the NFL, and while the Vikings will be good they won't be purple people eater good.

Exactly...Manning was the ultimate game manager/thinker and that's what he fell back on when his arm went to crap last year.

Crazy to compare Shaun Hill to Peyton last year...that's like saying Keanu Reeves could do what Daniel Day-Lewis did in "Lincoln" or "There Will Be Blood".

Now that's not to say Hill can't win some games, but he's not on the level of Peyton when it comes to managing a game.

Before the draft I suggested in another thread that the Vikes should draft a QB in round 3 so that they have a backup to groom for the future in case Teddy got hurt or decided to go elsewhere once his rookie contract was up. Nobody agreed with that. They didn't have a lot of needs this year so I thought it would have been a good move. Now I am glad they didnt. A 3rd round rookie would have been great to develop for the future, but with Teddy now hurt they need someone who can start. Is Hill good enough to lead them to a division title? Probably not. He's not a bad backup, but I don't like him as a starter.

McCown is injury prone but is a good QB. No way the Bengal trade McCarron for anything less than a 2nd round pick. Are the Vikes willing to give up a 2nd rounder for him? Will they wait and see if Kaepernick gets released and then offer him a 2 year deal? I never cared for the guy but he might be a good fit for the offense. He might be a really good fit actually. Then again, he would have to learn the system so Hill would probably start at least the first 3 or 4 games anyways.

From what I hear, everyone in the organization is high on Hill so they probably start him and have Sorenson as a backup while Heineke (sp?) gets put on the practice squad again.

I think you meant Stave.

My guess is they sign another QB before the season starts so they have a competent back up until Heinicke comes back...and maybe stick Stave on the practice squad?

Talk to the Browns about their other QB...RG3

Or better yet, see what Seneca is up to these days.

Or even better still, Sage probably has a little gas left in the tank. He's only what, 38? Hardly any older than Shaun Hill, why not roll the dice?

Rg3 is the Browns starting qb. Sage is retired and said on the air that he hasn't worked out in over a year. Seneca hasn't played in almost 3 years. Literally none of those are options. And there are better qbs out there.

At this point, where it sounds like the decent backup QBs would command a king's ransom, I hope the Vikings turn to free agency. Maybe a guy like Austin Davis, who started for the Rams in 2014 and wasn't horrible. Bring somebody in and start Hill against Tennessee while the new guy has the chance to learn the system, then see how things are working out with Hill.

Cowboys have first waiver claim, then the Vikes. Look for the Cowboys to pick him up and possibly make a trade with the Vikes.

Maybe. Although, I've done a little research, and he's looked pretty awful during the pre-season. He might be one to let slide by.

You are joking right?
Bridgewater was a pro-bowler last year...

although that was because other QBs didn't play:

Bridgewater’s inclusion in Sunday’s game came only because the NFL was desperate to find players willing to make the trip to Honolulu and actually put on a uniform. There were six quarterbacks originally selected for this game and only one of them is going.

That would be Seattle’s Russell Wilson. Other than that, Bridgewater will replace Arizona’s Carson Palmer; Tampa Bay’s Jameis Winston will replace New England’s Tom Brady; Oakland’s Derek Carr will replace Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers; the Giants’ Eli Manning will replace Pittsburgh’s Ben Roethlisberger; and Buffalo’s Tyrod Taylor will replace Carolina’s Cam Newton.

I can't imagine the Vikes will go this route. Wouldn't be the worst long term move, but the whole point of getting a QB is to fill a short term void.

I thought I read yesterday it might be as long as a 2 year recovery.
