Just a couple points to add, eamonn Brennan is an IU grad and not an iowa fan

Also, there seem to be a lot of nostalgia or maybe just man-love contributing to the assessment of Georges. He's an all-time great for sure but his personality contributes a decent amount to that. He's made clutch plays to win but failed probably just as much. I think too many folks here just really really care about beating iowa and forget the other games.

He is from Davenport and grew up a Hawkeye fan.

Georges is the winningest player in school history, is known for making clutch plays and is going to finish top 5 in scoring at ISU but you're probably right, his personality is the big reason we think he's good. Smh

I think it's a little unreasonable to say Woodbury has no value. When you're 7'1", you have value just based on shot blocking and dunking.

So Monte Morris has the same value as a shot blocker? Per ESPN stats, they both average 0.3 blocks per game. If dunking were a stat, I bet Monte and Dingleburry would be neck and neck in that category as well.

I read about the last four pages of this, how the **** did Mel Basabe get brought into a "best player in the State of Iowa" thread?

I think Uthoff is a good player but Georges has been doing this for 4 years. There's also that All-American spot he's going to secure.

I agree with the post above. Uthoff is having one hell of a year and it's easy to see why he's getting attention but Niang has done this for the last 3+ years. I would take both on my team.

Uthoff is very good, but Niang is such a huge part of every facet of the ISU team, he isn't about scoring points for himself as much as he is about finding a way for his team to win. How many times has ISU gotten down and GN has brought them back almost single handedly. Both are very good, GN is just better.

I'd take Georges, but Uthoff is the one Iowa player I really would have liked. It obviously turned out to be a very good get for them.

Uthoff had a bunch of offers out of high school, including ISU and Iowa. Can't blame the kid for choosing Wisc at that point in time. Grew up in Cedar Rapids as a Hawkeye fan, but Iowa was so bad back then at the tail end of Lickliter era. Same with ISU at end of McDermott era. Fred offered Gesell as well.

Wrong. Fred has never had a losing record as a coach. Ever.

I'd be curious to see how many of each player's points could be considered garbage time points. I've watched probably 10 ISU games this year and it seems Georges likes to have the ball at the end of games and doesn't pass to keep the clock going. Part of it is that he is a pretty good free throw shooter, but part of me thinks he wants that extra 4 pts.

Case in point; TCU last weekend. ISU up like 14 with 3 mins left and Georges gets the ball in the right corner with about 23 secs on the shot clock; he takes the 3 and misses. IA vs Rutgers Sunday; IA up 14 with about 3 mins to go and Uthoff has a wide open 3 in the left corner with about 20 secs on the shot clock and he passes it up to keep the clock going.

I think Georges is an intelligent player but that is just not a smart shot unless you are trying to tack on an easy basket. This is one example but if you think back to the end of games, he does this a lot. I know this will not go over well, but worth sharing I guess.

It's because he's the closer and wants the ball in his hands. Unlike your boy Mr. Ed who cowers over in the corner late in games (See second half of ISU game for reference).
