Hire Auburn's coach . . he has been there before. ISU can't afford another rookie coach mistake.

ISU is NOT getting Gill. simple as that. after 2004 he was offered a position on the OU staff and turned it down because he didnt want to have to play NU.

And dont think that he wants to get back at NU, he is very good friends with Tom Osborne and has publicly said that he does not blame TO for not giving him the head coaching job as he is an offensive coach when we needed a defensive coach. he understood.

Good luck on the coaching search but you are not getting Turner Gill. im sorry.

-Also, that was 4 years ago! AND, for an asst coaching position! Those are kinda big factors

Because we have too many stupid people saying why a coach won't come here and they don't have a clue either way. Constant talking out their arse.

I am not one who you speak of, but I honestly would not want a player or coach that is afraid to come here because of what they read on a message board.

I think ISU fans are setting themselves up for disappointment. 99% of the fans seem to want Gill. What if Gill doesn't come to ISU? How are the players going to feel? Is everyone going to be disappointed?

I understand that Auburn is buying Chizik's house in Ames and that Mrs. Gill liked the listing. My proctologist told me and he knows all the Husker alums.

I think most have a list of desirable coaches, and Turner Gill happens to be towards the top of most of them. I personally would be really happy to see Gill, but if not, on to the next coach!

Gill isn't an idiot...he knows his stock is very high right now. There is a possibility he regresses at Buffalo next year (there really isn't much of a chance to go up). He interviewed for about every open head coaching job recently and was passed up by all of them. Iowa State will be his last chance to land a BCS job this year. And who knows, maybe he falls off the map like Schiano at Rutgers did.

We've only seen one successful season - Suppose you are JP - are you comfortable giving a $1MM, 5-year contract based on that data? I guess you are....I'm not there...yet..

He gave 1.2 million to a guy that had never been head coach for a game in his life.

Tubberville stands to make more next year not coaching than what anyone would pay him to coach, from what I gather.

This has been my point for the last day or so.

YOU know nothing!!!

We have a lot of those around here. Well, one stands out.

Quite true. Hopefully, this will cause him to listen hard to what Pollard has to say. I like Gill a lot and think he could be a great fit - but I also don't think he's the only guy out there.

Ok, OK .....I'm on the Gill bandwagon - one season with 5 losses and Gill is the next Nick Saban.....Go Jamie - offer him $2 million + $1 more than what Cheesestick is getting at Auburn and ISU will be in a January bowl in three years guaranteed!

Why don't you give your opinion on a solution instead of poking fun at other's suggestion of a good hire?

Coaches take risks all of the time with new jobs. They see it as a challenge and live for it.

i have followed Gills career since before he left NU and judging by prior actions and comments i just dont see him going to ISU.

That's more level headed and won't fall on as many deaf ears as "You will not get Turner Gill". Which is it?

Who knows if we get this guy. Don't even know if he's the right guy for the job. Certainly looks like a great option.

I just see so many thinking he's the only viable option out there. So what if we don't get him? Or, what if Pollard doesn't even want him?

Hanging onto one guy via these searches for anyone usually isn't a good idea...sets ya up for disappointment.

Not sure we'll ever know for sure who is or isn't the right guy for the job until we actually hire someone and they start winning 8 or 9 games a year.

I like Gill - but who's to say that he's actually the right guy for the job? We likely won't know that for several years. The same goes for just about any hire we make.

Holy crap, that's some breaking news right there...

In the scope of ISU disappointments that's a tiny blip. BFD. So now we aren't supposed to wish for certain coaches due to fear of disappointment? Once again, BFD.

You think we can lure Hoke out of his newly signed deal with SDSU?

I don't think we should be going after coaches that just signed new deals with new schools.

You and I don't agree on a whole lot, but I absolutely agree with you here. We should not be going after a coach that just committed to going to another school.

Say we do hire Gill tomorrow, and say just off the cuff that JoePa decides to finally hang it up two weeks from now and Penn St swoops in and takes Gill right out from underneath us. How would we feel? ABSOLUTELY PISSED! Not only that, but Gill would go from being one of the most revered men in Ames to likely being more hated than even Chizik is right now.

If we don't want that kind of thing happening to us, then we shouldn't consider doing it to other schools as well.

Besides, I wouldn't want a guy coaching my Cyclones that is willing to pull a stunt like that anyway.

Hoke isn't even in the conversation as far as I'm concerned (and it's too bad, as he's a really good coach).
