Will some guys opt from bowl game?

A bowl game is an exhibition. I could care less if it is the Fiesta or the Liberty. You have bought hook line and sinker into the ESPN marketing hype.

What has changed? It's the money man. If you are Breece Hall would you risk an NFL payday coming in 5 months for the opportunity to hold the Liberty bowl trophy? Same with the other guys with injury histories. They need to prepare for the Senior Bowl where they get to practice and work with NFL coaches. That is more important to THEIR futures then 3 weeks of practice with our team.

And as a former player I would tell the guys who have an opportunity to get PAID to do what they needed to do to live the dream we all had playing football as kids. Trust me, none of the players are getting upset by people on a message board calling a bowl game an exhibition.
sorry to break it to you, but every game is a money grab whether it be a bowl game or not

having a big 12 championship game in dallas with 10 teams (with round robin scheduling) is completely unnecessary and a money grab

I would like to see a list of games from people declaring bowl games as "exhibition" of what games really matter and why

if it's only the playoff, then they should have been out like week 4 after we lost to baylor and had 2 losses

if the big 12 championship "matters" then players should have started opting out after the tech game since we had pretty much zero chance to go there after that game

Bowl games count on your record, so they're not an exhibition. What a ridiculous statement.

If guys want to opt out to focus on the pros, then I support them and thank them for all they've given to the program.

If I'm an advisor to future NFL players. I'd advise Eni, Rose, Kolar and McDonald to sit out. All are either banging up or are known and proven NFL talent. Hard to say a big showing in the Texas Bowl helps their draft stock.

However, the type of player CMC recruits and the program he runs. I doubt we ever see mass sit outs for a bowl game.

As a fan, I'd love to see the future get a ton of run time against TCU and in the bowl game. Start the seniors. But give the 2022 starts so meaningful minutes to really motivate them thru what is likely to be a pivotal off season

Rose has a lot of mileage in a tough position to play. Not that one game would matter, but the potential for injury is always out there.

I'm all for the young men sitting out and getting better positioned for the NFL.

Someone keeps hitting marketing on here. Marketing works with players sitting out too. ISU will market the **** out of these guys when they make a roster.

Twitter will follow them. Names and images will be up all over the football facilities. They'll be sold to future recruits.

Sitting is a viable game plan. Just wait in a few years when we score a player like #23 and the guy sits out mid-season for the NFL or because of a better offer from an SEC cash cow.

The most meaningful thing left at Iowa State that some of these guys can do now is get drafted as high as possible. They’ve played in a Big XII championship game and won a Fiesta Bowl. Winning a Liberty Bowl is great, but we all know it doesn’t move the needle much after the success from last year. Now we just need as many guys drafted and in as high of rounds as possible. Long term, that’s going to be more important to the profile of ISU football and recruiting.

Bowl games are meaningless in the way any game is meaningless when you’re out of conference championship contention.
as someone who likes to watch and go to games, I don't really think any game is meaningless as it gives me an opportunity to watch a competitive match and excuse to party

as a player who's worried about getting injured or something before draft day, and if they bought into the theory that the season is over once we no longer have a shot at a conference championship (say like week 6), then I don't understand why they just wouldn't quit after week 6 and declare for the draft

I don't think we can put ourselves into the position of any player in the situation.

After listening to the players last week and early this week, they seemed so down and so disappointed that I wasn't sure if they'd have the fortitude to not pack it in the rest of the way. They certainly didn't pack it in yesterday.

I am sure there will be some players that opt out of our bowl game whether because they are currently playing injured or they don't want to risk it. But I also think that the vast majority will want to play.

Hall could have a chance of extending his consecutive games with touchdown streak. Plus, he’s been pretty injury free his career.
Knocking furiously on wood! You are an ISU fan and should know better to tempt the football gods.

East of Neptune, IA.
The whole sit out/meaningless game thing is extremely interesting and is quite the slippery slope.

If this bowl game is meaningless was the Fiesta meaningless too?

If the bowl game is meaningless is the TCU game meaningless too?

Once eliminated from CFP/CCG contention are all games after that meaningless?

I don’t blame anyone for sitting out and protecting themselves but as a fan of the game I don’t like it because selfishly I want the most competitive bowl games possible with the best talent available.

Agree.
The sit out proponents probably shouldn't expect Rose, Hall, Kolar, X, and Purdy to suit up against TCU. But yet their injury argument pertains only to the bowl game.

It's not just the chance of injury. It's also about having an additional month to rest, train, and prepare for the combine (and heal if necessary).

At this point, most draft 'experts' have Hall ranked as the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd RB in this year's draft class. It's considered pretty close at the top of the position between him, Spiller, and Walker. The combine could easily be the deciding factor over who goes first.

If he lights it up at the combine (and I expect he will if healthy), there's a better chance he gets selected in Round 2 and as the first RB. Along with more $$$, that also increases the chances he gets picked by a team that's planning to use him as a key contributor right from the start.

But once you get into Round 3, teams that already have an established high-level RB or a deep RB committee are more willing to select another RB for depth. Would anyone be surprised if the Titans, for example, pick a RB in Round 3 this year in order to avoid another situation like happened this year if Henry were to get hurt again?

I'd completely support Hall making the best use of his time to increase his odds of maximizing his value and getting an advantageous landing spot.

1. Agree and I wouldn't hold any bad feelings if they all skipped the TCU game. It doesn't just apply to a bowl game.

2. NatureRoy? Top shelf all the way.

Yeah there's a big gap between November 26 (TCU game) and the end of December or even January 4, which is when the Texas Bowl is. If a guy like Breece opts out, he gets those six weeks to do what's best for him and combine/draft stuff rather than working with the team on bowl prep. That's a long time.

Not my feelings. But you are acting like a complete ass with little to no perspective. But that might just be your personality.

You didn't answer the question, Karen.
I did answer the question dumbass. You complain about a disappointing season while having the context and perspective of a toddler. Disappointing season…..try 0-10-1 under Walden or 2-10 in 2003 or 3-9 under Gene C. This team isn’t outclassed by anyone. I’m sorry that this squad didn’t live up to your expectations given how much work you have put into their success. But I can appreciate that 7-5 while disappointing this year is still on the right trajectory. I have zero time for “fans” like you that don’t donate and don’t show up except after losses. And when you do nothing but instigate turmoil with your posts then you should be banned. Is that condescending enough for you asshat.
