It's going to be funny to see this thread bumped when we throw nothing but WR screens and run the ball 40 times for 100 yards against SEMO and win 10-7.

Or 4th and short situations and ISU shifts 12 times pre-snap to A) run off tackle after the defense didn't even respond to the shift or B) some weird pass to a tight end in double coverage.

Ideally we see less of the multiple TE sets. I felt like that formation really handcuffed us last year, especially on passing downs.

starting petition for randy P to ask campbell today what the offense is going to look like.

plz sign

i imagine something like:
"matt you lose your all american running back, 4 year starter at qb and 2 very valuable tight ends.. are you guys planning on having an offense this year?"

Less turnovers out of the QB position would be nice too. Especially the backbreaker variety.

Also, as others have mentioned, stepping up in the pocket to deliver balls with power downfield might help the O-line protect and cut down on turnovers too. I think Dekkers can do that. I love Brock and he had an insane completion percentage, but I struggle to remember any deep balls laid out in front where only our guy could go get it.
As much as I loved Brock, the "backbreaker" turnovers were too common... Excited to see what Dekkers will do!

Until Dekkers gets settled in I expect a very conservative offense. I love Matt but have always felt that he is overly concerned about putting young players in a point where they may fail and thus does not always put them in a position to be successful.
I wouldn't necessarily say "young". Inexperienced is probably better.

He's been with the program/offense for 3 years now.

I'll be interested to see how he does with intermediate passes. Some of what I saw last year reminded me of Michael Vick's deficiencies in those passes, lasers just over the reach of the receiver. Maybe the ball he throws reminds me of Vick's because its a lefty with plenty of pace?

Randy already has this question in his back pocket.

I’m not really expecting a ton from Manning after last year. Sure hope I’m wrong but I just don’t see a huge improvement

Honest question but what would you have wanted Manning to do differently last year? IMO Brock having happy feet was probably our achilles heel last ear. That and having multiple o-lineman playing out of position.

Lol, #1 offense in the conference last year. We have some low end fans.

Situationally there's much to be desired.

A leaky defense was a problem last year as well and special teams of course.

Hopefully the fundamentals all around are more succinct.

Looks to me like the 3 keys for success are Safety/Linebacker performance - new WR's learning difficult routes - O-line containment ( without holding ). I just hope we don't have to score 50 points to win by 3. It's unfortunate Campbell left Brock in way to long last year in many games and didn't give Hunter more play time. Once they get their rhythm we'll do great.

I would say were going to see more RPO, Dekkers is a big kid and should be able to push his weight around.

Iowa State fans love to bash the offensive coordinator. Don't people realize that Manning runs the offense Coach Campbell wants him to run. It hasn't been perfect, but the offense statistically has been about as good as we have ever had. The issue last year was making key plays at important instances during the game. If those had been made, we are talking a couple more wins. Hopefully, Dekkers has that it factor that is needed to win a couple extra games for us.

Throwing it down to field more may have helped... I'm aware Brock wasn't able to plant his foot properly on long throw's often, but sometimes you gotta be a little less conservative.

Brock's inability to throw the deep ball and his unwillingness to just step up into the pocket and let it fly really handicapped the offense last season. I think some of the conservative talk is unwarranted. From my seats I saw a ton of down the filed opportunities that were there but Brock either held the ball too late or was looked in on Kolar. Hell the Iowa game alone we were behind the safeties 3 or 4 times. The pick at midfield should have been a touchdown... Our WR group is a lot better than what most people think and they could be a real bright spot this year.
