Would you support bringing Dan Gable back to ISU?

I want Gable back in Ames. I want ISU to dominate and end this crap. I want to run scores up and not apologize, so yes I want the legend to return. I am that pissed.

Two years ago, I would have said no way, but due to past events, I think it is time to just go for the wins. Face it, college sports has become a win at all costs proposition, so let's get the winning part down and worry about how we are perceived later.

Gable in Ames would be rested, motivated, and angry. His teams would be going for points until the whistle blew every match. We need that fire back in Ames. We need to quit being good losers.

ISU is an elite wrestling program. Let's start acting like one.

Well said. Agreed totally. Don't worry about the perception or past / current relationships. Do what is best to win right now. I am tired tof being good losers who talk about a bright future.

Bobby Douglas couldn't produce when he was the head coach. Why even think about bringing him back now? Would LOVE to see Gable, though.

We made the huge error back in the 70s when Harold Nichols wanted to keep coaching, and we couldn't find a "place" for Gable.

I just want to see someone who will bring back the agressive, attacking style of wrestling. Who that is besides Gable and Brands, I don't know, but that is the kind of coach I hope we get.

Gable has been a Cyclone hating hawkeye for 30+ years and you people think he would come over here????? Are you all that think this is even a remote possibility in the same room with strong paint fumes.

You have a better chance of playing a competitive game of pick up sticks with your butt cheeks then we do of landing Gable. Funny how things change when you can go back in the past Wrestling threads on CF and Gable and Brands are nothing but classless *** bags and now we have people wanting them as our coach. That would be a lot of crow to eat except that there is absolutely no chance of it happening.

Everyone seemed weirded out today including Douglas, you could tell by the interviews. I am guessing he was wondering what he was doing with Cael at ISU, I know Cael talks to him but thought that would be in private somewhere. I am not sure Bobby has great admiration for Pollard after he was sort of forced to retire in 2006 plus I think he is a few years older than Gable.

Douglas went to Pollard and told him he needed to do something to make sure we didn't lose Sanderson and stepped down to do it while we made the POS traitor the highest paid wrestling coach even though he couldn't hold a candle to Brands & Co. Then he stabs us in the back and goes somewhere where he gets more money and the bar has been lowered so expectations aren't so high.

I would take Gable in a F'n heartbeat. Not only would it **** the whole Hawkeye Nation off. It would be an upgrade from Sanderson and we woudl win the National Title. I see no downside to doing that. Is he Crazy? yes. However everyone respects him. Unlike Brands who is crazy and has no respect from anyone.
The interview last night made him sound semi intrigued.

I dont want anyone with Hawkeye ties.

Those that say they don't want to have any hawkeye ties are being immature and short sighted.

ISU last NC in 1987 included a former Hawkeye great, Ed Banach. That seemed to work out just fine.

I say oust Pollard and bring in Gable as the AD and Wrestling coach. Peace

I for one do not want Gable at any cost!! I went to ISU with Gable and knew him slightly. That is all I wanted to know him. He was always more interested in Dan Gable than anything else. His last match at the Nationals is a good example. All he needed to do was win and we had the NC, but no he was determined to go out in a blaze of glory with a pin. The result--he toke chances, got pinned and cost ISU the NC. He's an A number one *** and always will be.

Dan Gable is going to be for #1. That is how solo athletes achieve greatness. Same with Lance Armstrong, et al. You have to be into yourself big time to be able to put in that time and effort. This shouldn't surprise anyone. They have to be inward focused and a lot of times those people then get the perception of being a "*****" or an "egomaniac"....

And to the person who said that no one respects Brands. Wow, that is incredibly short-sighted. You say that Gable is respected, Brands not? If Gable didn't respect Brands, Brands would not be there. Not bad to have the respect of Gable, who is the #1 most decorated and successful person in that sport. Cael can't hold his jockstrap, yet. How many consecutive championships did he win at Iowa? 15? 20?

Precisely why he might entertain the idea. Gable has a big ego and wouldn't mind a little attention. I doubt we contact him, but I'd welcome him back to ISU.

I'm not a fan of Brands style, but did talk to a parent(ISU Alum), who's kid went to one of Tom's wrestlling clinics. His kid wore ISU colors to it and Brand immediatly chided him on that, but by the end of the weekend they were high fiving each other and having a good time.

One of the newscasts tonight had Gable on and asked him that question. He had a look of disbelief and said no. He said he's been a Hawkeye for 30+ years now and was a Cyclone for 6. He's never even considered it.

That's not the impression I got from the interview. If anything, I think he left the door open to receiving a call from Pollard. I would love to see Gable back in the Cardinal and Gold, where he belongs!!!

I came away with the same impression. It seemed a light bulb went on in his head when he was asked would you ever consider coaching at your alma mater.

If we don't ask, we are CRAZY. So what if Gable is for Gable. If he wants more glory there wouldn't be anything sweeter than taking the team Cael couldn't motivate to a championship and doing just that. You know Gable has a wound from Cael's perfection so I am sure it would be sweet.

There is only one answer to this....Yes. Gable is the best coach in the history of the sport. In a hundred years he will still be the best coach to ever coach the sport.

If he is not JP's first phone call I would be pissed. Some people need to put their pride/anti-hawk feelings down here.

I guess if we wanted to rewrite history we could hire Bob Bowlsby for AD, Gable for wrestling, Hayden Fry for FB, Dr. Tom for MBB and Vivian Stringer for WBB.

Pollard is really good at two things. Selling hope and winning me back when my heart has been ripped out, tore apart, and stepped on. And Gable would do both instantly.
