Would you support bringing Dan Gable back to ISU?

There is only one answer to this....Yes. Gable is the best coach in the history of the sport. In a hundred years he will still be the best coach to ever coach the sport.

If he is not JP's first phone call I would be pissed. Some people need to put their pride/anti-hawk feelings down here.

I agree. I big hire needs to be done in a timely manner to maintain stability and confidence in current and future recruits.

The scenario of Gable ever coaching at ISU was never in my mind, mostly because I never thought there would be an opening this soon, and in this manner.

I hope the light bulb did go on, and he takes this opportunity as a new challenge and keep iowa wrestling on top (state of iowa that is).

I saw this interview too, and my take is he wouldn't even consider it. He said, at the end of the interview, that his job right now is to make sure his legacy (Iowa Wrestling) stays intact. That is his job.

If he wanted to be a head coach again, he had the chance a couple years ago. You don't think if he had wanted the head coach job that he wouldn't have gotten it? He's got it made, right now, I would think. Posh job in the athletic department, and full access to the wrestling program without the demands, pressure, and responsibility that comes along with it. I.e. no travelling unless he wishes to, booster circuits, recruiting, etc.

I would love it, but I doubt it.

And this is funny. We were spewing venom at him when he 'flipped Cael the bird' and now we have him as 'Jamie's first phone call'.

Reading through this website is probably better than taking a class in human psychology.

Dan Gable coming home to ISU is about as crazy as Cael Sanderson leaving ISU, never happen.

Gable loves college wrestling. I think if you put it to him in terms of improving the health of the sport he might do it.

btw, how many of you guys who call Gable crazy have ever wrestled competitively? I'll take a crazy coach who can create crazed dogs on the mat who want to do one thing, win. Yes he's old but I have no doubt he could manage our program temporarily and also advise in who to hire next.

Gable has been a Cyclone hating hawkeye for 30+ years and you people think he would come over here????? Are you all that think this is even a remote possibility in the same room with strong paint fumes.

You have a better chance of playing a competitive game of pick up sticks with your butt cheeks then we do of landing Gable. Funny how things change when you can go back in the past Wrestling threads on CF and Gable and Brands are nothing but classless *** bags and now we have people wanting them as our coach. That would be a lot of crow to eat except that there is absolutely no chance of it happening.

Brilliant.

I would take Gable in a F'n heartbeat. Not only would it **** the whole Hawkeye Nation off. It would be an upgrade from Sanderson and we woudl win the National Title. I see no downside to doing that. Is he Crazy? yes. However everyone respects him. Unlike Brands who is crazy and has no respect from anyone.
The interview last night made him sound semi intrigued.

Now that's funny.

Great point, cypride. Even allowing for egos making strange bedfellows, DG fingering ISU should put to rest any doubt about the depth of contempt he feels for us. I'm really waiting for cooler heads to start a thread about the REAL possibilities for Cael's replacement. "Cael's replacement." Just doesn't look real in print, does it?

Great point, CyPride. Having DG blow us the bird should dispel any doubt about the depth of contempt he feels for ISU. Even allowing for egos making strange bedfellows, it's a walk off the plank on aging legs to think he'd come here. I'm waiting for cooler heads to start seriously thinking about who's going to replace Cael. Replace Cael. Just doesn't look right, does it?

I think we should get someone like Clar Anderson from Duke. With all the talent in Iowa (2nd to Pennsylvania of course) he should be able to succeed.

Our two most successful wrestlers of all time both took a big dump on us. Cael even did so after we "moved" Bobby Douglas out so he could be head coach. Seems like there was no satisfying either one of them. Sure would be nice to know the whole story behind Cael leaving. Jim Gibbons left because of the money. He was only making like 38k back then and could make more in a regular job. He said so many years after leaving.

Not a chance in hell... he's a traitor and scum bag, just like Cael.

To call someone a traitor because he took a job somewhere else when the one at Iowa State was not open is a little much. Was the administration supposed to ask Harold Nichols to step down so Gable could take over? Look up Harold Nichols if you're not sure of the answer.

Do people who call Gable a traitor also call Dan McCarney a traitor? What about Greg McDermott? Is he a traitor?
