I want him to be the next Cam Skattebo. And if he gets there Ill be thrilled.
Cam is a bruiser with great skills, Hansen is more like an Eddie George without the top end athleticism and power. I'd take either of those progressions from him though!

Sama reminds me of Kene Nwangwu. Elite speed, but the fb instincts aren’t there. Sometimes it’s fine to get your 3 yards instead of trying to bounce it outside. It took Kene until his SR year to be patient enough to see the hole and hit it. Abu is on the same path.
He does struggle with reads, but we also run way too many ****** horizontal run plays with him.

We need to use him in the screen game and pass to him out of the backfield.

I'm a little curious to see Sama's median yards per carry. Sama is the type of player who will get 1-2 yards a lot but then bust a big run.

I prefer to have a RB who has a median of 3-4 yards per carry. These runners are consistent and will help move the chains regularly

It's a metric I think often gets overlooked IMO
Maybe we’ll see something different this year, but I think ideally he would be a change of pace backup behind a stronger, more powerful RB #1. Hansen is kind of that, but there’s a significant talent drop off from what we were spoiled with before.

There are two guys on the current roster I might say have a one in a hundred shot of being a pale shadow of Christian McCaffery.

Carson Hansen isn’t one of them.

Er…anyone want to go for John Riggins next?

Hanson and McCaffery both have bad luck with injuries… that’s about all that is comparable .

Yeah, i believe Hansen could have an all conference type season…IF he stays healthy. The problem is he has yet to show he can do that.

Almost no one can in modern football. Too much force on impact and too many miles on these tendons.

That's true, but David and Breece pretty much did it. I would bet that they missed a combined 3 games between them their whole college careers. Still, that's a lot to ask for and why we really need Sama to step up and take on more carries. The good thing is that we have good depth behind them with Lee, Peppers and Flora. I would not be surprised at all to see Flora getting a scholarship sooner than later.

Breece is unique in that sense. I've never seen anyone better at taking half contact or just slight adjustments to make guys whiff. Of course having really good speed helps in that regard, especially when his vision is so strong he makes you miss 3 seconds before it happens. He also blew his knee out and missed a year. Could have happened in college, was just a matter of time.

David is just tough, he plays through it. His skill set isn't dependent on his foot speed. It's just smash mouth and sheer will. Even he sat out last season a good portion.

DM's hip level and balance seem to be pretty unique imo and he tends to keep himself squared up. Not quite 'cube' level like Troy Davis but being able to run that low and balanced makes it tricky to get a good strike.

He's started to wear down a bit and maybe that's influenced his injuries.

Sometimes it's also just luck like a bad hit/angle to the side of the knee.

The freak luck accidents are unavoidable. I agree David is good through contact but it wears everyone down eventually.

Hansen and Sama started the year as nearly identical RBs. Good straight line speed (they ran 10.85 and 10.84 100m in HS, respectively), ran physically, not a lot of elusiveness, and both really struggled when to bounce it and when to cut it up the first few games. Both guys left a lot of yards on the table making bad reads. The difference is Hansen figured it out after a few games. Both guys need to be a one cut and get your ass upfield backs. Hansen did it and had success. Sama can do it too, but he’s got to get decisive.
