Not a huge fan of this idea. The types of fans would just sell their tickets to non-KU games and then get guaranteed seats for KU. The people who actually go should be priority over these types.

Maybe do half a point if you transfer your ticket to someone else.

Well wouldn't the other people who care enough to go to the other games want to buy their own tickets to get points to attend the biggest game? I would think so.

Go back to paper tickets. It is so much easier to hand the ticket to a friend than this online stuff. I've only had the ID ticket system but you guys make it seem like it has all started 3 years ago when the ID system started.

this. so much this.

we were always able to walk around and just grab tickets from others who weren't going to go. I would bet a large % of tickets go unused just because students are too lazy to transfer them to their friends. If a paper ticket is ending up in the hands of a "non student", who really gives a ****. the ticket is being used and that individual is there cheering on ISU.

the system is going to change. that is a fact. less student tickets and a system where those who come to the most games get the best seats/ actually get seats at ku/iowa ect.

if this doenst fix it, the student section will be moved to one end of the court.

Again, these are facts

Oh man. Strongly considering making this quote my signature or at least bookmarking to return to when nothing changes.

I have actually kept my Student ID for such circumstances.

Well, that and college night promotions where a student ID gets you free cover.

While the energy has been good from the regular ticket attendees and their attendance has been fantastic, they don't drive the atmosphere at Hilton. Every once in awhile the entire crowd will rise to their feet for a possession or two (and when we all do it's deafening), but the students are the ones that really drive the atmosphere.

Which is why this issue is so infuriating. Especially when there are many die hard students (like myself and basically all of those on this forum) who make cyclone basketball such a huge priority, who never miss a game, who go ape-**** during the game, and who get lumped in with the rest of the students due to their poor showing.

The article was funny and made good points, but it's completely incorrect to generalize all students as not being dedicated enough, or to consider all students to be "***** assed".

Preaching to the choir here of course.

I called out Cyclone Alley, not students. Only bad basketball has sucked more life out of the student section than CA, but even that is debatable.

Not to say this is the issue with the lack of attendance, but it doesn't help. You pay a $2.00 fee to transfer the ticket, and another $2.00 fee to print the ticket (you must print transferred tickets). Kind of a ridiculous money grab for such a simple process.

As a student who regularly attends games, I have no real issue with the basic thoughts presented in the article. I wish more students were attending, I wish they would be as die-hard as the rest of us; however this article is annoying because it speaks in absolutes and paints a false picture of what excellent fans previous generations were.

"I would kill to watch a team playing like that while I was in college, because I showed up through the GMac/Morgan years" is oft the proof provided as to how great of fans you were as a whole. To those who use this as an argument, your sample size is a total of one. You. Obviously you are more fanatical than the average ISU alum (seriously, you are posting message board called Cyclone Fanatic). Many of your fellow students did not feel as strongly supporting the team as you did. Well guess what? Many current students feel the same way as you do/did, (hence the students camping for 3 different games this year). We are the ones who attend games. We are the ones who encourage friends to come with us. We are the ones who hate to see the upper deck empty. We are what you were. We will be you in a few years, on the outside looking in, wishing more students would attend games.

The point is this: The ratio of crazy fans to total student body is likely equal to where it was before. You are expecting the percentage of wild fans to increase with more success. It doesn't necessarily work like that, since the truly great fans were the ones who attend games regardless of the win total.

Before painting with that broad stroke, consider this: many of those students who you claim to be lesser fans have spent more time waiting in line for ONE GAME (I spent 34 hours for Kansas, and I was certainly not alone) this year than many of you probably ever did throughout your entire college career. This does not reflect on your fanaticism of Cyclone athletics, only the product placed on the court. There are still fanatical students, your wild spirit has been passed down to us (specifically the ones who read/post on this board). We can all agree that it's unfortunate that there are not more of us, but lecturing the current student fanatics is not a good place to start.

tl;dr- Your CF/WRNL post is not reaching the intended audience, it is only frustrating the one who generally agrees with your position.

I guess I think anyone looking to blame "Cyclone Alley" means blaming the students themselves. I doubt that much that that organization is doing is keeping students away - rather, it's just students in general making the decision not to come to the games.

Then again, I thought we always did a really ****** job of marketing MBB to students.

I have to agree on the paper tickets. I have away and acquired a lot of paper tickets in my dorm days. I don't know that there would have been nearly as much of that with websites and fees involved.

I wish the student section would get as crappy of WiFi or 4G that I do in my nosebleeds because I try to check my phone during halftime and my Facebook feed is still trying to pull in new posts from before I entered Hilton. This is as good of a team since I was a student from 98-02 when we had to claim season tickets in a lotto to sit in the lower level for 4 games during the 99-00 Elite 8 season. If I didn't have a job to keep me from standing in line I'd camp out in front of Hilton every night right now just to get prime seats for the next home game.

This was a great write up and I hope the students take it to heart and pack Hilton for the last home game. OSU is fighting just to make the NCAA tournament after most predictions had them finishing 1 or 2 in the conference in preseason. Ejim and Kane deserve a packed and loud Hilton to finish out the season so don't give the CF boards a reason to complain about the lack of student attendance!

I just think it's funny that this is the medium they use to call out the students. It's pretty clear that the majority of students trafficking these sites are the ones that attend games. It's the non-die hard student fans that need this kick in the rear. That being said, this picture is great...

What medium would you suggest a contributor of WRNL use to call out students, other than write a blog on WRNL?

I think the part that irritates me is that there aren't more students that realize how special these past 4 years have been. I realize not every student has to like basketball as much as I do, but 2500 out of 30,000 should.

I've probably been going to basketball games for 25 years and while there have been lots of good seasons, there have also been lots of bad seasons. And there has never been 3 seasons like these 3.
