That's why I am sounding the alarm. I want this staff to succeed and stay here.If rebuild were 7-6 after some bigger seasons, it would seem OK.
If rebuild means 3-9 after seasons of 7, 9, and 7 wins, it means we're in a spot that programs don't dig out of. Then it's not a rebuild, it's a collapse.
I just don’t understand why these kids don’t understand that you need to keep your head up and see what you are tackling?
You absolutely cannot lower your head and use your helmet as a weapon. Yet they continue to do it all the time.
I’ve never agreed with ejecting kids from the game for it, but if they’re going to be that stupid, maybe they should be ejected? Ejected for being a dumb a** should be the call.
Is it right to put a good hit on a starting QB and as a result win a game?
Baylor gave the game away with turnovers and the blocked extra point converted for two points. Plus one of the turnovers was a score for WVU. Not many teams can overcome that let alone losing your QB1 during the game - not a mystery. The two late TOs were a killer for Baylor. Might have taken a little shine off of Aranda this season.
It is clearly targeting by every letter of the rule, but like Nolaeer said, the main problem lies with QB's trying to gain every possible yard before they slide. It puts the defender in a no win situation. I don't know what the answer is but as soon as defenders start letting up earlier on those type of plays, QB's will take advantage of it and run for more yards.
Not to say it's impossible Shapen wouldn't have still gotten concussed, or injured something else, but the defender is already starting to go in for the tackle right when Shapen starts his slide. 100% agree he shouldn't have led with his head but even if he goes in for a normal tackle, it's probably called a late hit and maybe still even targeting if he hits his head.
This team will be out of bowl contention before the WVU game playing like they have been.I know our season is disappointing. I would say Baylor's is worse at this point.
they were supposed to contend for a conf championship and will have to claw to 6 wins. Just shows most programs have to go through rebuilding phases. We are not immune to that.
The game against WVU could be pretty huge, may be the difference in a bowl for us or not.

We did that a ton with Breece. Even Brock had a long run against Baylor. Right now we're playing our 3rd and 4th string running backs. They aren't as good at reading blocks and running to the correct hole as Breece and Brock.I wasn’t able to watch much, but I was watching towards the end when the WV back broke off the long run to the 10. They showed the replay from the end zone angle - all those linemen just zone blocking to the right, a big hole opens between two of them, the back zips through, gets by the lone linebacker about 7 yards downfield …
Is it really that hard to never be able to do that? Is it just too hard to scheme that kind of play, and instead run over the guard into a stacked front followed by 3-yard drag patterns?
Northwestern went 3-9 in 2019, then won the Big Ten north the following year going 7-2 and ended ranked #10. They've also had multiple losing seasons followed by 10 win seasons.Fitzgerald's definitely a pretty good comparison. I hadn't noticed how far he's fallen off. Holy cow.
We basically have to accept that we are going to play several nip and tuck games every year. That’s just how our talent and playing style is going to be.Northwestern went 3-9 in 2019, then won the Big Ten north the following year going 7-2 and ended ranked #10. They've also had multiple losing seasons followed by 10 win seasons.
That's the nature of the business for programs that get the level of talent that Northwestern and Iowa State get. We are still at the middle to the bottom of the Big 12 in talent. It's gotten better, but we're not talented enough to show up and win 7-8 game per year based on talent. This year I'd say we're more talented than Kansas, less talented than Texas, Oklahoma, OSU, Baylor, and pretty close with everyone else.
That means we have a lot of close games because we're playing a lot of games against teams with similar talent. So far this year we've lost all those close games. Hopefully that turns and we win a couple. In 2020 we won all the close games with the exception of @OSU and Oklahoma in the Big 12 Title game.
I totally agree with this. However, Northwestern has the privilege in playing in a very soft division.Northwestern went 3-9 in 2019, then won the Big Ten north the following year going 7-2 and ended ranked #10. They've also had multiple losing seasons followed by 10 win seasons.

This is total bs. He had every opportunity to stop and chose to stick a shoulder in there to pop him anyway. He was going low to tackle the qb by the knees and hed already committed when the qb slid.
It is targeting under the rule, which didnt exist when i played and needs to be modified now.
sliding is very dangerous because it exposes your head to the force of the tackler. Even if the contact is the shoulder pad and not the helmet, chance for severe injury is there.
Sliding should be illegal. They need to devise of something else to signal the qb wants to be down. maybe he could spike the ball.
Two 3-9's in the past three season in the Big Ten West...It's just hard to survive going under 0.500 every other year. Not new news to ISU fans.Fitzgerald's definitely a pretty good comparison. I hadn't noticed how far he's fallen off. Holy cow.
