I hear Kempt looked really good in practice last week. The rest of this is pure speculation. By the end of the week Zeb is working with the third team. He is frustrated and has a meeting with CMC. They talk about how Zeb fits into the offense now and what he needs to improve to get more playing time. At somepoint the option of transferring was brought up as a way for more playing time. CMC is about giving the players motivation and direction, while letting them make their own decisions. I could see CMC suggesting to Zeb to take a few days to think and discuss with family.
Right now I think Kempt is number 2 based on knowledge and experience. Zeb has more physical talent but appears to struggle with knowing the offense, reading the defense, and making the split second decisions needed. Long term, he doesn't fit what the offense needs from a qb. I also suspect he has some other people in his life that may be pushing him to consider leaving. Whatever he decides, i wish the best for him and know he will have his teammates and coaches respect and support.

How many teams in the country do you think have backups with a ton of playing experience?

Exactly. Last year we had Kyle Kempt starting with RS Freshman Noland backing him up. That was it as Moore injured ACL. Now we have Purdy starting with Kempt backing him up. Which is an upgrade right there. Now add in Real for 3rd team. We are fine. Add experience to Real and Purdy and Easton Dean and we are good. And that isn’t counting Moore.

Real Mitchell has a whole lot of time to get better and then we have true Freshman Easton Dean. With the 4 games for freshmen rule I am not as concerned as you. I would like to have Zeb back. But I don’t think Zeb’s absence is going to decimate us.

If Purdy goes down our season - regardless of what Kyle did LAST season - is effectively pared down to looking for 6 wins.

Kyle is a hero, but he is NOT a co-#1 starter in this offense with how this team is now working. Neither is Zeb, but even Zeb offers things KK can't.

I will never blame a kid for transferring. I feel alot better about these situations knowing what kind of person we have running our program. He's not the type to promise a kid everything under the sun to get a commitment. I'm sure Zeb, like everyone else, knew that all he's promised is a fair shot.

I don't quite understand what he gains by leaving now. May as well stick this year out and see what happens. It's not like he'd have any opportunity anywhere else this year. I wish he would stay, see what happens, contribute if need be, and then clear his head in the offseason when everyone has the time and energy to have a full conversation on his future. But I suppose if he has one foot out the door already it may be best from the team's perspective to let him move on.

About as many drivers as who don't carry car insurance. Never know it's missing until you need it.

Not saying it’s not nice to have, just saying it’s a ridiculous expectation to have it and it’s stupid to think we’ll fail if we don’t have it. This isn’t the NFL. Most school’s second string quarterbacks have little to no experience.

Nailed it.

Not a lot but most have some practice experience. There's a chance that we have 2 guys on the roster next year who have a future at QB for ISU. That's not ideal at all. At absolute best, right now, there will be a true fresman, a RS freshman whose long term position isn't likely to be QB, a RS sophomore who won't play here and a true sophomore starter.

You think Mitchell won’t have a ton of practice experience by the time next season rolls around?
