I've been to the Rock Bottom in Chicago far more than the one in DM and it was usually packed and decent.
lol. It’s not dying. Just not everyone can survive.

So what is the "commercial" microbrew of Des Moines/Central Iowa? KC has Boulevard, Twin Cities have Summit/Surly, Chicago has Goose Island.
If I was in Des Moines, what local beer can I get almost anywhere, even sporting events, concerts and movies and stuff like that? Is there a local beer that almost any restaurant should have, like a Boulevard Wheat in KC?
I'm not sure anyone can be surprised that a brewery in Reinbeck, Iowa can't sustain success. Can't imagine much of a market there, especially with Waterloo/CF having new breweries opening up. Plus, I've had their beer and it was pretty meh.
And hadn't Rock Bottom been open in Res Moines for like 15 years? That's a pretty good run, IMO.
Living in CR, I can safely say the brewery scene is alive and well around here.
Confluence is the closest to that, IMO. Exile is everywhere too, but I think Confluence is a little better.

Rock Bottom is a huge chain, I wouldn't put it with the others. The micro-brewery rush is starting to plateau maybe but i dont think itll ever be over or go away.
